Forums - Nintendo - (Crazy Rumor) Wii 2 Specs

support of movies? That would really surprise me. And I don't think it will need blue-ray for games :)

So blatantly fake sounding that it hurts physically.

Hah, this is hilarious. First of all, Nintendo never uses a common storage medium. They used cartridges when the competition was on CDs, Gamecube Discs when the competition was on DVDs, and now Wii Optical Discs when the competition uses DVD and Blu-Ray. They'll almost certainly have some kind of high-capacity storage medium, but it will be proprietary.

This will likely mean it won't play movies, since it won't have the capacity to play those discs.

As for the rest of it, like 1080p and same-day launch? To that, I say 'duh'.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Nintendo might be prepared to release then, but probably isn't planning on it. They will milk the market as long as they can with the Wii. Given lower sales of the wii, and fear from the motion controls coming to 360 and PS3, it's possible they might be preparing just in case. If people keep buying the wii, they will not...

The Wii can play DVDs. I agree though it will not play blu-rays. This is due to Nintendo 'choosing' not to though rather than it not being able to. Otherwise, what would the reason for using a proprietary format that shows no other benefits from the original source,  if you have to pay fees to play movies anyway.

i would buy that, bring it on Nintendo

(they wont because the Wii is doing so well, why stop that? lol
same as i dont think we will se another Nintendo Handheld that is not part of the original 'Nintendo DS' group,

DS2 in 2015
PSP2 - 2010

im in a predictions mood

Like the gamecube and Wii had DVD-like drives, the Wii2 could simply have a bluray-like drive, right? Pretty much blu-ray, but different enough so Nintendo doesn't have to pay anyone to use it?

Releasing outside the holiday season is smarter than it seems at first glance and may be a good way to prevent shortages.

Nothing revealed here strikes me as being patently fake, but as with anything of this nature, I'll take it with a grain of salt.

Nintendo won't use bluray or any expensive licensed disc type.

They would utilize one of the larger capacity disc techs that has a MUCH smaller license fee. Nintendo has never cared for catering to anything but gaming when it costs them as a manufacturer. The video services starting to come out don't cost Nintendo, instead they provide value.

A bluray player would not make piracy impossible as they already know how to get past its security and there are plenty of other options out there that could provide the same capacity and at a smaller cost.

I also don't see a trade-in program happening. Instead there will be a way to migrate your downloaded content to the new machine, but no discounts on newer hardware.

The only items right here is that there will eventually be a successor and it will have HD capabilities (for games).

How are they going to have a blu-ray drive when it's owned by Sony?

I hope it's true though.  And that it will be as powerful as PS3 and 360, because there's still the chance that some games that people were hoping to see beautiful hd versions of this gen could still make their way to Wii.

I stopped reading after the first "tidbit" about Wii 2 having a Blu-ray drive... it's more likely that Nintendo would try to resurrect HD DVD than license Blu-ray technology from their arch rival Sony.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
