Anybody else notice how similar in theory this game is to that KingdomHearts without S-E characters thing we heard about a while back?

We've seen mickey in black and white, played it on the NES, and been around to see most of the disney movies in theaters. EDIT: hmm, although wii=/= casual either....o well there's a point in there somewhere. |
Just as many people in the 18-32 year old crowd own a Wii as a PS3. In fact, probably more. This common misconception that just because a game is made for thew Wii that it is either targeting kids or NOT targeting older gamers is completely false. The simple fact is, if this game came out on an HD system, it would more likely have to forcus on a smaller market that was ONLY between the age of 14-32 (more like 14-25). Whereas on the Wii, they can target gamers of any age group. The same cannot be said on the HD systems.

but again, many have claimed that it is much more difficult to predict success on the wii.
So even with a larger install base, they may have no idea who will actually buy the game, whereas the hd twins are more reliable.

Alas, being good and selling haven't gone together to well for the Wii. Every really good, really hyped non mario/non nintendo game has been a flop so far on the Wii. Remeber Z&W? The conduit? The one after that?
It needs to have a 3rd party success or it really will be limited to party machine /shovelware role. Hopefully this is it, but I don't think it will be. Too mickey for the gamers, to hard core for the non-games.
Trying to convince me the Wii is a real adult game machine 'if you play it right' is like trying to convince me Tofu tastes great 'if you just cook it right'
So they are starting to talk the talk, telling the Wii core exactly what they want to hear ala HVS, "A game built from the ground up just for the Wii."
Now they just need to close out on the second and far more important step, actually making a great game.

Being a flop is relative. About 40 third party games have sold over a million on Wii. However yes, it is true that there are many other games which would be considered 'core' games many would consider a 'flop'. However, these games actually do turn a profit. And do so with next to no advertising and relatively weak 'core' support (bad reviews, little hype and little to no pre-orders). Yes, 200,000 copies of Muramasa or 350,000 copies of Zack and Wiki are a drop in the bucket compared to 15 and 20 million that Nintendo is selling for their major games. But considering everything the third parties are up against (and what little they've been putting into thew Wii), those sales are better than nothing (a flop).
And I just want to go on record as saying yet again that the Wii does sell more software than the HD systems. Including third party software. There's an article on vgchartz about this.
