Forums - Sales - The difficulty of selling a Wii

But twesterm, that IS the whole point.  Not everyone has time to wait in line at 6 in the morning on a Sunday, people have other things going on in their lives.  In this sense, scalpers are providing a service to these people.  In a lot of places, the only way to get a Wii at a retail store is to get up early on Sunday.  If you can't do that because of other obligations, then you can't get a Wii unless someone else is willing to sell you one.  Thank goodness there are people who can wait in line for you, or else you'd be SOL.  You expect these people to just give away their services for free?

If someone specifically told you "Hey, it's hard for me to find a Wii. Can you buy me one if it's easier to get one where you're from, and then mail it to me? I'd be happy to pay you 50 bucks or something plus any shipping costs, if you'd do that for me.", that would qualify you for the helping badge.

OTOH, snatching every available Wii in advance, only limited by the amount of money you're willing to invest, with the specific purpose of selling them to the highest bidder, does not IMNSHO. And, as if that wasn't enough, grumping about how hard it now is to sell them for a big enough profit, so you can do it again and again on a grander scale come Christmas, does make you come out even more like a douchebag.

It may very well not be illegal (though, where I come from, not reporting those profits for tax purposes is indeed illegal, as they're subject to both VAT and income tax), but it's hardly pretty.

 Sigh.

I didn't snatch every Wii available. I bought one.  Also, I didn't complain about not getting enough. I never once said anything like that.

It's not like I'm a money hungry bastard. I'm a person out to make some easy money. It's not illegal, it's not hurting anybody. Go ahead and keep throwing your book of morals at me. I may catch it and sell that too

You're right, they can choose to buy your overpriced Wii for $330, and obviously, they have choosen not to. Brilliant idea to want to buy more consoles to sell when you can't even unload this one. Hope you get burned like all the fuckers that bought the PS3 at release to resell, only to see the market dry up quickly. It's not even the fact that you are buying consoles to resell for a profit that irks me, it's the attitude you have that you are some "savvy investor" give me a fucking break you douchebag.

 I love you too, friend.

I dunno, I agree that it's a dick move. I also agree that their isn't much wrong with it considering we live in a capitalist system. It's not like those two are exclusive.

I mean if the local music store charges 20.99 for CDs and FYE charges 25.99 for the same CDS are FYE dicks?

Yeah, for sure, but they can get away with it.

Also, i find the basic statement "These companies try and nickle and dime us to death so what's so wrong about someone else trying to nickle and dime us to death even further." funny.

If only because the term "Nickel and Dime us to death" sounds negative, yet the thought of someone else making it worse seems ok?

Also, it's not really helping the rich, but the desperate. The rich rarely overpay for something they want, they tend to have more time to research products and know exactly what to get and when to get it because of this. They're also less likely to buy something because of hype or brand etc... they generally know the value of stuff is what i'm saying. That's why they're still rich.

Heh this reminds me of back when the PS3 launched, on another message board a guy said he paid 4 bums 100 dollar to stand in line all night so they could buy 3 PS3s for him in the morning for him to sell.

This is getting a cry of outrage because the dude is essentially bragging about how he's ripping people off. If a retail representative came on here and said "haha, we're selling our system for 33% more than it cost us to buy it", then they'd get ripped into as well - or the makers of one of those budget titles for Wii talked about how they're making so much money selling something that cost 20,000$ to make at 50$/a pop.

cdude, you're an asshole, and the fact that you can't see that doesn't change the fact that you are.  Edit: And yes, you only did this with one, but you fully admit that you're planning on doing it with more later AND you're part of a recent trend for individuals to opportunistically rip off others - and don't try the convenience line.  If you hadn't waited in that line, either someone who got there a little later to stand in line would've gotten it and actually used it, or it would've been on the shelf for a consumer to come and purchase it.  You created the inconvenience you're overcoming.  And now you're whining about the fact that a) you can't rip people off for as much as you want to and b) people are pissed at you for wanting to.

Ugh.

No one was bragging.

Your opinion of my character aside, does anybody have anything to contribute to this thread?  Is anyone else having any of the same issues? Wii supply comments?

Exactly: sigh. It not being illegal (but not pretty either) means we have to put up with you... and you have to put up with us. I know you weren't bragging, but you had to know your posts were going to generate all this controversy.

Still, what we all don't have to put up with is insults. But I see our dear agnostic guy got banned already, so all is well when it ends well.

 Hypothetical situation:

What if someone else who wanted for the same purposes bought it instead of me? I'd rather have someone pay me for a service than somebody else.
