If a drunk sociopath was coming at you with a knife, you could run.  Guns are designed for drunk people to just point and click and kill.  They don't even need to have good aim, 'cuz they can just wiggle it around and keep clicking over and over until you're dead.  Guns give drunk sociopaths a huge advantage that they shouldn't have.

If the advantage is the problem then we should arm the populace more, yes? That way they don't have an advantage over the sober person. The sober person would have better aim, and thus the advantage. That argument doesn't really work out to well does it? You probably want to rephrase your point.

I removed all the parts that have nothing to do with this story. The father and child were within arms reach of each other. There was no need to throw a knife. He could have just stabbed.

@Final-fan
Being just as deadly is contigent on them being in the same relative positions. If he was willing to get that close to a gun, then he would be willing to get that close to a knife certainly.

No I don't want to rephrase my point.  Arming the entire populace will only INCREASE the drunken accidental murders.

We're supposed to be armed to the extent that we can fend off occupying forces, not to the extent that all people are armed and a % of the population accidentally murders their children and we just shrug our shoulders and go "meh, 2nd amendment's more important than kids."

Oh wow you just made me remember the knife throwing in GoldenEye. Bravo. I think I used to play games in which everyone had only that weapon just to be crazy.

We used to play with Invincibility on, and Knives Only, and then just play tag.

I'm going to go to his cell and taunt him by playing the video game right in front of him.

"Oh do you want the controller? Go on! Jump for it! Come on! You ALMOST got it! Oooh, too bad!"

Oh man I actually just LOL'd all over.

Yeah blame the video game, not the fact that he was a psycho hose beast.

That's not at all certain!  Your whole point is hinging on the fact that a gun is deadly at long range while a knife is not; therefore there is a huge incentive to NOT close with a knife-wielder, while there IS a reason to approach a gun-wielder (one who is only threatening you to get something out of you, and not shooting on sight) and then trying to grapple it away.

You're simultaneously acknowledging that a knife is only effective at close range while a gun is not, and claiming that a person facing a gunman would be no more willing to try to grapple it away than when facing a knife-wielder, as opposed to simply running away.

Its true a gun is more deadly over a distance than a knife, but it is also more deadly close up than far away. Aiming a gun drunk is extremely difficult, and that is not really a secret.Someone willing to put a gun at point blank range probably wouldn't hesitate at the thought of something less intimidating.

Maybe I haven't been clear.  If the kid is running away (without getting the gun out of the guy's hands), the guy can shoot him -- which is pretty much exactly what happened -- whereas if the kid is running away and the guy has a knife, he's not capable of stabbing him, and throwing the knife with lethal results is orders of magnitude less likely than (the already unlikely result of) shooting and killing the kid.

So it could have made sense to him to try to disarm a guy with a gun, while it would not have made sense to him to try to disarm a guy with a knife.  Also it's easier to keep hold of a knife than a gun, since you're already holding the only real safe part, so the disarm is harder once grappling has commenced.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

most likely it was over cod4

and that rocks

but yeh, dont steal from people with guns, even dad

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Wii Friend Code: 4094-4604-1880-6889

You know...we've alot of stories about RL violence surrounding gaming, but this is one of the worst I have every heard about...truly saddening and maddening...

I reserve judgment until I find out which game this was. Depending on the game, he may have been in the right.

Please stop and re-read the story, then try to understand the pain and suffering some people are going through over this tragedy. This isn't a joke, and I expect more from a mod. Not to say that you were the only one... joking about this terrible incident, but if you want to make a witty remark about someone's murder... do it somewhere else please.
