That's not at all certain!  Your whole point is hinging on the fact that a gun is deadly at long range while a knife is not; therefore there is a huge incentive to NOT close with a knife-wielder, while there IS a reason to approach a gun-wielder (one who is only threatening you to get something out of you, and not shooting on sight) and then trying to grapple it away.

You're simultaneously acknowledging that a knife is only effective at close range while a gun is not, and claiming that a person facing a gunman would be no more willing to try to grapple it away than when facing a knife-wielder, as opposed to simply running away.

Its true a gun is more deadly over a distance than a knife, but it is also more deadly close up than far away. Aiming a gun drunk is extremely difficult, and that is not really a secret.Someone willing to put a gun at point blank range probably wouldn't hesitate at the thought of something less intimidating.

Maybe I haven't been clear.  If the kid is running away (without getting the gun out of the guy's hands), the guy can shoot him -- which is pretty much exactly what happened -- whereas if the kid is running away and the guy has a knife, he's not capable of stabbing him, and throwing the knife with lethal results is orders of magnitude less likely than (the already unlikely result of) shooting and killing the kid.

So it could have made sense to him to try to disarm a guy with a gun, while it would not have made sense to him to try to disarm a guy with a knife.  Also it's easier to keep hold of a knife than a gun, since you're already holding the only real safe part, so the disarm is harder once grappling has commenced.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.
