Forums - Sales - Microsoft: on PS3s recent sales surge "We expect it to be short-term and we expect them to be back down to third place soon like they’ve always been.”

And im laughing at Cross-x and all the others complaining of MS arrogance... Sony arrogance at the outset of this gen and up until relatively mecently was staggering!

Please, keep preaching. Some folks weren't in church yesterday. Muchas gracias.

They've both been heavily arrogant, but that's not to excuse Microsoft for doing so here.

So, it's ok for Sony to say people will go out and get two jobs to buy a PS3 OR they'd sell a 5-6 million consoles without games - and MS says 'They'll be in third, like they always were?'

Ok, he said it. Why are folks so sensitive? I don't see anything wrong with it. What about when Reggie said 'Not my problem?'

Over the PS3's 3 year span, I can't tell you the number of threads I've seen where folks are yappin' about the PS3's big break. I even remember when NJ5 had in his sig - PS3 domination starts in ... and there were several titles and events crossed out.

The PS3 is still in third. Yes, the console will cut into the 360s lead, but reality is - Sony is still losing tons of money. When the financials come out, they'll still won't see a profit. And to think Sony is going to dig itself out of the hole they dug - and keep this steady pace while the 360, which IS making $$$ for MS, just stops selling? Wow. I just grin so much when I see statements like that.

He can make statements like that because his console is making money, even if the sales aren't there, it's still making money while the PS3 is burning through it like zozobra.

I'm sorry to bring it up again... but regardless of what anyone says this gen, nothing will ever compare to the:

"The next gen starts when we say so"

I know its old but it SET THE MOOD of the gen, so please... cut the holier than thou bull.

Can I get an amen?

Amen brother. Testify it. Halelua

I say who cares. They are just smack talking to each other using fanboy media as their medium.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

As pointed out, Sony wasn't  really in 3rd place in 08 sales and they won't be this year, either.

Someone will bump this thread in a few months and we will see if the MS rep was correct.

"like they've always been"? ...PS2 gen says 'hi'.  "Almost never been" is more accurate.

NOPE

You don't even have SONY's worst arrogant statement:

Kutaragi was asked what he feels about the price of the PS3 thatw as just announced to be $599

Kutaragi answered "It's probably too cheap"

& yes he did say that btw

PS3 was behind in overall 2008 sales by ~800,000 units.  The shipments are about equal because there were many unsold units and much lower demand at the end of 2008 than originally thought.  Lots of stores were having massive clearances of old 40GB PS3's for well into 2009 because of this.  Also, "like they've always been" is referring to PS3 only so the PS2 generation can..... calmly stay out of this conversation since it is not a factor

Once again Microshaft talking through their own arse. Why doesn't sony or ninty act like this more often. Because they are professional business companies. M$ do this as signs of desperation, i see that their price cut worked efficiently whereas sony's obviously didn't. lol

Isnt the Xbox division $5.8B in the hole?   And has only turned a profit the last 2 quarters out of a 8+ year span.

So until they have 2 successful generations while turning a profit in both can they make comments like that.

I thought Sony was the worst in terms of PR. They were arrogant and foolish and look where the PS3 is now.

1. PS3 doesn't and hasn't needed a big break.  It's sold plenty well, faster than 360 over the same period.  The 'break' that will spur sales is a price break, as we all know.  MS can still counter (and the only way they can counter is) with another price break of their own.

2.  Yet MS has lost billions overall in the business, so if MS making money for some reason makes you feel good about the 360 and how much fun it is...yeah, at least they are chipping away at their overall debt!  Convenient that at this moment you don't care so much about sales, but about profit.  Plus, recall that RRoD and other repair expenses are not included in the accounting for MS's electronic devices unit or whatever it's called.

You grin so much at the hopefulness of fanboys, I grin at worse hardware, expensive proprietary peripherals, slower sales, pay-to-play online, and an all-time $7billion loss in the gaming business.

Note that I would only have posted as I did in my shorter post above, but hey, your spin needs some counterspin.
