SONY wouldn't even attempt that with a handheld. Hence why they market the PSP3000 and PSPGo together. Also, download only would really only work for a handheld at this point.

How can anyone say the 3rd place company (Sony) will launch a new console AFTER the 1st place company? (Nintendo). This will just not happen. You tell me any time in history when the 1st place console's successor has launched first? I've said it before and i'll say it again. SONY DOESN'T DECIDE HOW LONG THEIR CONSOLE IS ON THE MARKET FOR!! The consumers and retailers do. And do you really think retailers will be able to find space (which will be severely limited) for the 3rd place console on their shelves if the competitors launch shiny new consoles. They will find some space for the current market leader of course. But for 3rd place? I don't think so.

Why does everyone fail to comprehend that when Sony says they plan to support a console for 10 years it doesn't mean that it'll be a 10 years until their next console, just that the console will be sold and manufactured by Sony for 10 years.

No the dreamcast launched first. I am saying that as soon as the next gen starts, the Ps3 will become irrelevant to retailers, as people will be more hyped by the new consoles so there will be only enough space for them and the current market leaders. Maybe you need me to spell it out to you in simpler terms. SONY CAN SUPPORT THEIR CONSOLE FOR AS LONG AS IT LIKES BUT IF THAT CONSOLE IS NOT BEING STOCKED AT RETAIL IT WON'T COUNT FOR JACK! I will rephrase the question. How many times in the past has a console that is not market leader stayed out in the marketplace longer than the market leader?

I could see the DS2 with the tegra should be considerably more powerful out next year, and Wii2 that will be as or more powerful than the PS3 but a better GPU launching at $250 or $400 US console that will be 10x more powerful the year after from Nintendo.

and Microsoft will release a console in 2-3 years if natal fails to set the world on fire and that will be based on a 5000 series GPU that will be 10-30x more powerful.

as for Sony I believe that a PS4 will be out in 2-3 years but it will be just 2-4x more powerful most of that being a much better GPU and just to Cell processors stuck together at $300 us or $500 if they go for something 10x or more powerful.

wow, this thread is unbelievable. Do you honestly think it would be a good thing for anybody (aside from "Xbots" and "Wii will follow blindly" fanboys?) Competition is a GOOD thing, it forces companies to do more with less, and for that reason alone I want the Sony to stay in the gaming business.
