Forums - Nintendo - Crystal Bearers developer: Selling on Wii will not be easy.

Crystal Chronicles was my second most coveted game on the Gamecube after Phantasy Star Online.

OT: Maybe if Echoes of Time didn't look almost exactly the same as the DS version, there would be a better perception of this series?! Having that game in mind when you see this game, you'd think, "PASS".

One semi-bad (but not show stopper to sales) point:

Square Enix: The first play through will be about 15 hours, which may seem short, but considering it uses the Wii remote, it seemed like the appropriate length of time. You can also play a second round with the clear data, which we definitely recommend, but to play every single element of the game, 2 rounds may not even be enough!

I was expecting longer for a FF game. It's not bad, but it's a little less than I was expecting. It's barely long enough that it shouldn't hurt sales much. (IE: 20% less sales than a 40 hour game, but if it was only 6 hours, it would probably be 70% less sales as it's too easy to rent for one day).  Sounds like there is some reason for replay which will help.

I think this'll do pretty well for itself, honestly. People have more faith in the name "Square-Enix" than they do in, for example, "High Voltage". Also, no doubt, a lot of people will be attracted to it because of the Final Fantasy brandname.

I think it will do well because they are actually trying to make a game people want instead of just an unwanted test game that is worth at most $20 that and trying to sell that test for $50.

Of course, there's that too

My biggest concern would be its release being right next to FFXIII.

Their release date in the US could help or hurt them. We'll see whether the date is too obscure for it to be noticed, or if it coming out on the 2nd-busiest shopping day of the year helps it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Destructoid: Third parties have had mixed luck in bringing their "hardcore" franchises to the Wii. What do you think it takes to make a traditional action/adventure game on the Wii a success?

Square Enix: Of course we would love to succeed, but seeing the current Wii market, it will be no easy feat.

Seems that EA/Visceral aren't the only ones complaining about the Wii 3rd party market. Will people hate Square Enix now?

You guys keep switching it up.  Is it 'M' rated games or hardcore games or both?  I don't see what Dead Space has to do with a Final Fantasy title.  And this game will do well.

@jefforange89

My biggest concern would be its release being right next to FFXIII.

It'll have a full month, if not more (not exactly sure when FFXIII releases) before FFXIII releases.  If anything, I think that'll help it as people might use it as an appetizer for the main course.
