Just for reference, here's Edge reviews of main mario games:

SMW2 Yoshi's Island - 9
SM64 - 10
SM Sunshine - 9
SM Galaxy - 9
NSMB - 8
NSMB.Wii - 7

So they arent biased... they just dont think its as good.

Edge arent biased.

But you have to remember that a 7 from them isnt bad...

They may not be, but i just disagree with their scores by a lot. I would never use them to influence my purchase though. IMO

that might be fine but its when they give games like lets lap an 8 and dead space extraction a 9 i have problems with their scores. they seem to praise innovation more than playability which i think is wrong considering innovation doesnt always equal quality. play lets tap and youll understand.

They gave Mario Kart Wii a 6 and Double Dash a 5 way back when. 'Sacrificing racing integrity' apparently, poor hardcorze.

If Mario Kart Wii is a 6, I don't mind a 7 for NSMB

I agree...

Plus I think you need to put the time period that these games were released, or the console they were made for into the equation as well...Yoshi's Island was innovative for it's time, SM64 was innovative for it's time, NSMB was made for a handheld machine etc...nsmbwii is really just a retro/ds style game released on a home console(the next fully fledged mario title is SMG2)...but I'm sure it's good !!!

Mebbe they expect more than a 2d retro pastiche, esp on a home console...they gave the first galaxy a higher score after all...

But yeah a 7 from edge doesn't phase me at all...7 from them is good

It's interesting that they gave New Super Mario Bros. an 8.
That means this one is worse, in their opinion
. I'd love to read that review. Any scans?

I don't understand this reasoning. EDGE Magazine, like all publications has contributors who will provide a different take when given the same material for evaluation. Drawing this conclusion without knowing who reviewed the game and their reasoning doesn't make sense. Whoever reviewed NSMB Wii isn't bound by whoever wrote the DS review, assuming different people reviewed those games.

Do you read EDGE? The last time I read it they never put out the name of the author (at least not where I have found it) in their reviews. The review of a game is supposed to be impersonal and stand for the view of the magazine as a whole. At least that's what I gather from the reviews I've read. Maybe this has changed, it was about a year ago since I last bought a copy.

This is invisible text!

Why use the 9 Mario and Luigi got as an exampleof how much EDGE sux??? I'm playing it at the moment and I gotta say it's a damn good game and deserves a 9!

I think the reason why it scored so high is M&L is good AND original (in certain ways) ...I am certain that no matter how good nsmbwii is (or MAY be...we haven't played it yet!!!) it plays like a 'best of' Mario game (you don't need to have played it to know that!)...
I don't have a problem with that and will still buy it, but it probably lost a point or 2 because of it!!!

Here's the Super Mario Bros Wii score roundup:

+Level design is great. Stands shoulder-to-shoulder with SMW, SMB, and SMB 3.
+Multiplayer makes it even better. It's a classic experience that won't grow old soon.
+Koopa Kids-Music kinda sucks.
-Graphics and art style could have been a lot better.
-No online.
-No Mii support.
-Not a lot of voice acting.
-No Motion plus support.
-Characters aren't unique from each other, other than how they appear.
-Story is really basic and not very good.

Mii Support???? Edge complaining about lack of Mii support?? Really??? Anyway the motion plus is unecesary in this game, I understand the lack of online features but the others are quite standars for Mario games. (Yes Mario barely talks we know that), the stanandarization of the characters is designd to give every players the same chance to play, it isn't like Mario Bros 2 US with different types of characters but only 1 player option.

-Graphics and art style could have been a lot better. Not a factor
-No online. Doesn't need it
-No Mii support.Didn't expect it/not necessary
-Not a lot of voice acting. In a Mario game? What? Don't need it.
-No Motion plus support. Not much will be going on in a platformer where you need WM+
-Characters aren't unique from each other, other than how they appear. When were they ever unique?
-Story is really basic and not very good.

Those cons have no impact on whther I would buy the game or not, because I expected none of what Edge wanted to be included.

If the game has no cons, its almost perfect 9.9/10!

OKAY, BEFORE THE INTERNET EXPLODES:

An Edge 7 is equal to a normal reviewer's 8.5. A normal reviewer's 7 is equal to an Edge 5.

So, with that in mind, good reviews all around, especially for Forza and Uncharted: Edge doesn't give out 9s often.

So Uncharted 2 got an 11. Hell yeah, just like it deserves... ;)

lol, nah 9 = 9.5 using messed up gaming standards.

So ya I personally like to read the review, also not a lot of people screaming bias against edge like before, but some of things mentioned is strange. Like Mii Support.
