Forums - PC - If Windows 7 turns out to be great, how will Apple advertise their macs?

Apple sales have been down since Netbooks hit the market.

They should worry about that not Windows 7.

Yeah, my girlfriend wants one of those for some reason.  Do they even have USB ports?

LOL of course they do, that'd be blasphemy if it didn't have any USB ports. I saw this girl in class whip out a netbooks and I facepalmed (don't like netbooks) and she put in a flash drive on the side so yea it has USB ports.

@l337 gamer

How are you getting a free copy? Hmm, I wonder if my school will give out a college discount on 7 like they did with Vista.

I get tired of the whole "Apple is more expensive than PC's".  People are usually comparing them to crappy E-machines out of wall-mart.

I picked a Sony computer off of Amazon.  I consider Apple computers to have better components than Sony, but Sony is one the highest quality PC manufacturers (therefore more expensive than e-machines and Dells).

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VPC-L117FX-24-Inch-Desktop-Windows/dp/B002PHM572/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1256260065&sr=1-2

As you can see, for 2000$ they are very comparible.  The Sony has 2GB more RAM, BlueRay and a touchscreen.  The Mac has a bigger screen and a much better video card.

Like I said before, these are just two computers I found to compare.  I didn't find any Mac that was on sale or some website that sells them for really cheap.

Simply put, Mac does not produce cheap computers.  That is why people think they are more expensive than PC.  However, find a PC that matches a Mac in quality of parts and power, and the Mac is usually slightly cheaper.

LOL, so to battle the "Apple Tax" you pick out a Sony computer which is also known for having its own "Sony Tax." Seriously, stop being a fanboy, this is not subjective, we're talking about pricing here aka numbers. Like others have said, you can find a PC with better specs for cheaper than a Mac, but you can't add in that "cool" factor that is in every Apple product /sarcasm.

OT, It's funny I just finished watching a Mac commercial where they are talking about "everybody upgrading" but instead of it being to Windows 7, its to "the more stable OS" or something like that. It was dispicable, really.

Edit: These aren't the ones I saw but, you can see basically where there ad direction is going.

The first video didn't show up for me but WOW! The second one is so lame! Haha XP was a great operating system and I don't know how the others ones did but they seemed to work for most people. The really old ones were before my time. I think my first memories of computers were on Windows 98.

Apple Get-a-Mac ads, new ones in respond to Win 7 are in!!
http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/

Same old drivel as always, it seems.

With respect to the 2000$ i5 iMac:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.278226 - costs 730$, and gives you faster memory as well (but a slower HDD).  Everything else is the same.

And then that leaves you with 1270$ for a video card, DVD drive, monitor, mouse and keyboard... I could put in a Blu-ray drive and a Radeon HD 5870 (which is between two and three times as fast as as the 4850 that the Mac in question comes with - and I've still got several hundred dollars left.  Hell, I could also add another 8 GB memory and still have several hundred dollars in savings by getting a PC.

And if you look at their upgrade costs, it's even more hilarious.

Saying that Apple products aren't overpriced is hilariously wrong.

Yea I know, I'm currently using XP and besides a few things here or there (nothing major), I've had no problems. I have used Windows 95, 98, ME, CE, XP and Vista, and the only ones that I felt were REALLY bad were ME, CE and Vista.

Also, I'm not sure what you're talking about with respect to 1 000$ monitors - my 25.5" ASUS one that I bought not too long ago was 330 Canadian dollars, so that'd probably be 300 or less in 'murrika.

About the whole Macs are easier to use bit.

Of course they are easy to use. To someone who has never used Windows, they are idiot proof.

I completely disagree with this statement.

tomshardware.com supports my argument. Here is one of their articles about the issue.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/apple-mac-leopard-windows-vista,1985-3.html

A little old, but people were having the same argument back then also. It just happens to be an article I remember.

Yes, take a look at this:

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/tech-myths/5-myths-about-apple4.htm

Mac's cost over 50% more than similar PC's.

Ouch...that hurt.  I really like that website too.  However, I can find several other websites that say "Macs are too expensive" is a myth.

Regardless, even though I had fun arguing this, I have spent a lot more time doing it than I wanted to.

I will close with this.  The computer shop I worked at for 2 years was a small business.  The managers I worked for were amazingly smart...not like the idiots working at the Geek Squad.  Everyone there accepted that some things were easier to do with Windows, while other things were easier to do in MacOSX and/or Linux.

People who think Macintosh and/or Linux are worthless I believe are ignorant; aka: poorly qualified to debate that point.  That is all.

The "Macs don't cost too much myth busting" articles are funny.  "This doesn't cost 5 thousand more (120%), it only cost $2200 more (70%)...

It's stupid, Macs cost more than a reasonable PC, the style line of Vaio's cost more, the IBM lappy cost more.  Each has there reasons for charging a premium (stability/foolproof, "style", and durability, respectively)... The people buying those obviously feel it is worth the extra money.  I prefer to build my own, which now-a-days costs more than a reasonably priced PC.  I like picking exactly what's inside and outside.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I'm loving Windows 7 coupled with Google Chrome. Best combination ever :P

It's really good.

I don't seem to be having any stability issues, either.
