MontanaHatchet said: Guys, I gotta say, your excuses are pretty lame. Umbrella Chronicles and House of the Dead were both on rails shooters for the Wii, and they both sold over a million. Additionally, both games got much worse reviews than Dead Space: Extraction, so quality certainly isn't a factor. Perhaps being an on rails shooter disappointed a lot of people. But even that wouldn't result in the incredibly low level of sales it has. |
There are genres out there that there is a demand for multiple games a year by a large portion of the userbase, but most genres tend to have a smaller userbase which demands games less regularly. While I don't think that on-rails shooters have the smallest userbases or the least regular demand, it is one of the smaller genres and most fans of the genre probably wouldn't buy more than one game a year.
With that in mind, with Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, House of the Dead 2&3, House of the Dead: Overkill, Link's Crossbow Training, NERF N-Strike, and Ghost Squad the Wii already has seen more enough on-rails shooters to satisfy the demand of most of the potential market for the generation; and the inclusion of Dead Space Extraction and Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles (and any additional on-rails shooters) are likely going to see more disapointing sales regardless of quality.
The thing that is difficult to understand with most of these games is that there are far more popular genres that tend to see more regular demand from their customers which have had very few quality releases on the Wii that publishers are ignoring ... At times you have to wonder if certain publishers are trying not to satisfy their customers on the Wii to encourage them to buy a HD console in order to consolidate the market in one place.
