If there's an optional install, I'd do it even if it only shaved off 5 seconds. Call me weird, I just enjoy shortening the load as much as possible.

Yeah, but I also think my PS3 is on its last legs.  I got a new 360 earlier this year and it's as quiet as a mouse (though the only time I use the disc drive is when I'm installing a game) but my PS3 is pretty crazy loud no matter what I do.

It's sad because 1) I still need to play more Demon's Soul after I finish Uncharted and 2) while I can dig out a DVD player to watch DVD's, I can't do that for Blu-Ray's.  ;_;

And to me, trophies and achievements are not the same thing.  Or they are, but I like one better than the other. 

Make sure your PS3 has plenty of ventilation, and the fan won't go overboard. Remember, it's doing that to cool the system down, not to annoy us. During the intensive parts of a game like Uncharted 2, though, it will become louder no matter what you do. But then Uncharted 2 has no install.

If both versions are identical, I suppose you should look at Trophies vs. Achievements, controller, etc. But if one version is superior (not only if it's greatly superior), go for that one.

but its nice to have the option to skip that.

I wondering how many ps3 are going to get overheated by FFXIII ....

 

I prefer an install.... which can keep my ps3 last longer.

If you look at it that way, every game needs an install. CoD4's "install" was 12MB.

Other games have installs for loading the game quickly because the important asssets that get reused all the time are on the hard drive. So 3d fighters for example where the characterstage modelstextures can be realisticlly installed because they don't take much space.
