Forums - Website Topics - Advertise systems in sigs...what compels people to do so?

The J man has noticed that many members on these forums have put ads of their console of choice in their sigs and although the only ads of systems in sigs on this site are of the ps3....the J man is sure other posters on other forums do the same for their system of choice be it wii or 360.

The J man asks what compels people to do this? Has the line between PR and customer been blurred where buying a system means also promoting it?

The J mans view on this is this , the ONLY relationship the J man will have with any console maker is that he gives them money and they give him a console...after that its just them working FOR HIM to make sure the J man is satisfied with his purchase...be it getting exclusives etc.

Eh.

Pretty much every time you share your gamercard for Live you're doing an advertisement for the 360, though not in so many words and it's harder to notice because it's disguised as a service rendered to the player.

As to why?

I would just assume that some people care too much about console "loyalties".

It COULD be that those folks just really like that console. That just MIGHT be a possibility. Frankly, I see nothing wrong with it, why should I? Why would that bother me personally, what someone advertises?

Oh, I definitely see where J-Man is coming from. I find console "loyalties" disconcerting, and the championing of one system over another is just one particularly loud incarnation of that. It speaks, to me, of having entirely the wrong mindset for the hobby.

I don't get it either....

You can't change it, so why bother with it? I say, let people be, who cares about these "loyalties"? It doesn't cause me to lose sleep, or affect me in ANY other way. With that said, you could just ignore those people, it's that simple.

...Because it can be changed, through clear and open dialogues facilitating the exchanges of ideas and the broadening of perspectives. I don't believe in leaving things as they are when I have reason to believe that conversation will change them for the better, and conversation almost always changes things for the better. That's why I bother posting. It is also why you bother telling me these things you say, regardless of whether or not that is your conscious reasoning.

And no, I would rather not, because even the most .... rambunctious of console "loyalists" has good things to say from time to time.

@CGI

But there is a line between support and advertising.....once you show a price for a system or deals or limited time offers then it becomes far more than just "liking" a system.

And dont take the J man wrong , he really couldnt care even if he wanted to....its just something he has been thinking about for a while now and thought it warrented an answer from the vgc community.

I stand by my point, it's not affecting me in a detrimental way so I see no reason in complaining about it. That's my take though, you do as you please, I respect that, I just don't agree with it.

...I find this curious, because you go beyond merely seeing it as harmless, you see it as defensible. Why?

CGI...your acting way too defensive for no apparent reason.......this isnt a thread complaining about ads in sigs....its just a thread about "WHY" some members do so.

And BTW , we all arent affected by what people put in their sigs just so you know....

Not defensive at all, in fact. Just giving my opinion, I don't think the advertising/loyalties/preferences are that serious. I can't give my take in your thread?

You were trying to twist this thread into something it wasnt.....a thread whining about people putting ads in their sigs....but W/E because right now its water under the bridge.

And of course you can give your take....
