The memory is super expensive and it is always good to buy a lot of it for those kinds of devices. Also, the inability to share across multiple devices is always a down side. If their proprietary memory was same/cheaper in price to SD it wouldn't be as much of an issue. |
Pro Duo card adapter that uses MicroSD memory.

You also realize for the scenerio you mentioned, you can buy an 8gb micro on amazon brand new for less than 30 bucks right? Giving you all of the memory you THOUGHT youd have for what you said would be an extra $100.
I don't understand what this fuss is all about Memory Stick Pro and Memory stick micro are priced more or less the same : 8Gb Duo is about 23$ 8Gb Micro is 28$, 16GB Duo is 75$, while 16GB micro is 81$ (and for the stingy out there the 16GB micro for Sonyericsson cellphones is about 65$ and works like a charm in the Go).

I was just made aware of that product a few months ago and forgot about it, but when I bought my devices I thought the memory was different enough that they were completely incompatible.
Anyways, that is only one of the reasons I don't like Sony products in general. The other is they generally overcharge and underdeliver. Canon and Nikon make superior camera products. Yamaha, Onkyo, and others make better A/V systems, and the list goes on. While Sony does make some good stuff (I love their phones that I get for free), not everything they make is good and the propriatary format is still annoying.

WOW.. where were you a few years ago when I bought a Sony Camcorder..
You can not use the camcorders Easy DvD Function UNLESS it's a Vaio.. So I had to borrow a Vaio Laptop from someone that had one so I could put my wedding on DvD..
Yep.. in order for you to get the most out of a Sony Camcorder you have to own a Sony Vaio PC/Laptop Only.
And of course if you want to take pictures with the camcorder a Duo Stick Pro is not the only thing, nope, you need to buy the one that comes with the stick attachment..

@nordlead: I agree about Sony products in general. I had a Sony Ericsson phone and while it was built great and had a solid interface, it not only took proprietary memory, but had a proprietrary connector (fastport) that eventually stopped working. When it came time to buy a new unlocked phone this year, I bought a Nokia because their phones take MicroSD memory and use a simple mini-usb connector and it was simply a better value.
Come to think of it - apart from that phone the only Sony products own are Playstation related.

They aren't the first company to do shit like that, but I agree that they fucked you over.
