Forums - Gaming - Bayonetta gets 40/40 from Famitsu (12th game in history)

kantor:

i´d rather play bayonetta over UN2 any day, i know it is good and have tremendous production value but for me bayonetta looks so much more fun, and i see myself playing it more than i would play UN2.

not every game that scores perfectly is considered a masterpiece, just like a game not scoring perfectly can be considered a masterpiece, we know that, but that doesn´t mean i will want to play a masterpiece over and over again against a fun, but not masterpiece game..... i hope you get my point.

Gratz Bayonetta. You broke a landmark from a gaming review source that actually matters, and is internationally famous.

One of the last publications you can actually go to, to get news first, and one of the last unbiased sources of reviews, who aren't afraid to give an opinion.

I respect Famitsu, and I respect their scoring system. Spending the entire thread bashing the reviewer, instead of congratulating the game, because you would rather be touting an exclusive, is frusterating to me. You might just enjoy bashing. You have no real investment in the game or the source. But when in doubt, bash, right?

One thing I hate, is that no game this gen can get the respect it deserves unless it's an exclusive. Games like GTAIV get constantly flamed, while less than stellar exclusives like Resistance 2, just gets "never mentioned." Fallout 3, one of the most acclaimed and loved games ever, actually gets flamed on the forum on the regular, but I've never heard a bad word about Valkyria Chronicles, though(while great) it was much worse. Now we have people bashing MW2 because it isn't exclusive. I've even heard an argument that "a game can't be good unless it's exclusive." Some people on this site, actually believe that.

The problem is, sometimes, they don't say that's why they are bashing a game. They don't say "it's because it sucks on my system" or "it's because it's a multiplat, and its competing against my excluvises." They make up arbitrary reasons and disguise them as their opinion. They have an agenda.

I really hate anonymous internet opinion. You know why? Because they're fake. Most of these people haven't even played enough of the game to form an opinion, and they ALL have an agenda behind said opinion.

This thread is FULL of presumption. Full of assumption. "Surely Bayonetta can't be a good as XXX, who are we kidding." It must be at least decent. It is by the creator of the original DMC. Without him, you wouln't have God of War, yet people imply that this won't be better than, UGH DMC4!? If God of War III or Alan Wake got a 40 percent, this would be a celebration thread!

Another thing I've found about this thread I hate, is the presumption that a demo is indicative of the final quality of the game.

Sure, that's the premise of demos, but if you haven't figured out that they very rarely capture any essence of the actual game, then why am I listening to your opinions about gaming, if you can't figure out something so simple and obvious?

Am I wrong? Are demos usually indicative of a games final quality? Or instead, are they meant to prevent you from buying a game you absolutely hate? They are a small portion of a game. They aren't the whole game. How can anyone review or judge a game by playing 10 minutes of the beta?

Some people have no problem with it, apparently. Yet they FLAME Famitsu. You get it? They flame a real reviewer, while giving their "reviews" based off a 15 minute demo. It stuns me. No, you can't be held to the same standards as Famitsu for your opinions, obviously, but you should, because if you were held to those standards, most people would fail in every one.

That's just my opinion. I vented a little, but I'm not flaming anyone. I'm just saying that some of the stuff you people have said made me angry, plus the general direction of this thread.

forgive my grammar, I'm typing from my phone.

Okay, Zen's against me, I've lost.

It's been fun, guys.

For the record, CoD4 is better than any exclusive FPS this generation, and BioShock is better still.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The general direction of the thread, Zen, is less about Bayonetta specifically and more about how half of Famitsu's perfect scores have all come out in the past two years. And, past that, about the differential between the expectations of Western reviewers and Japanese reviewers.

Of course I was talking this generation, and western games weren't given bad scores this generation or last.

If we are looking at the HD consoles (everything Nintendo makes is Japanese, so the Wii has plenty of fantastic Japanese games), Japanese games this gen aren't particularly good, with a few exceptions: namely a few RPGs and Metal Gear Solid. Looking at the 13 PS3 games I would personally rate 9+ (not counting PSN), one is Japanese. The vast majority are American, actually.

And I'd disagree. My top 10 of this generation would consist largely of Japanese titles.

This is my top ten for this gen:

1) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
2) Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
3) BioShock
4) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
5) LittleBigPlanet
6) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
7) Killzone 2
8) The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
9) inFamous
10) Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

One Japanese game, one British game, one Dutch and seven American games.

Could you post yours? I'm intrigued. Remember not to include Wii games, because as I said, Japanese Wii games do tend to be the best, because Nintendo is Japanese, and their studios are based in Japan.

EDIT: Killzone 2 isn't American. Are you retarded, Kantor? >_>

My tenative top ten.

1. Valkyria Chronicles

2. Lost Odyssey

3. Demon's Souls

4. Tales of Vesperia

5. Bioshock

6. Call of Duty 4

7. Folklore

8. Metal Gear Solid 4

9. Heavenly Sword

10. BlazBlue

I haven't beaten Uncharted 2, so it's not included but it'd be up there on the list. The bottom 2 are tenative and could swap based on my rage in BlazBlue.

I guess out of my 48 games I own from this gen (31 PS3, 15 360, 2 Wii), 28 of them are Japanese. I suppose I still prefer Japanese gaming.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Scans out. Bayonetta 40/40 on 360 and 38/40 on PS3

Can't we get a LITTLE parsley though, to praise the game?

What if the game they gave 40/40 to was Uncharted 2, lol?

We'd have a lot of new Famitsu defenders.

I mean, when a game gets a good score, is it automatically the best course, to flame the reviewer?

Is it not more prudent to congratulate the game, instead of berating the credibility of its praise.

It's insulting, and yes, I realize the "perfect scores went downhill" soundbyte that draws in the posters, but bro, comeon, lol. This is was genius level blog. Are we simply "the masses" at this point?

It's just so petty in most cases. The only thing that is a fact here, is that the reviewers at Famitsu know more about Bayonetta than anyone who posted in this thread. Think about that.
