The absolute worst one of these is insure vs. ensure. When we ensure something, we make it happen. When we insure it, we get an insurance policy to pay out if it doesn't. There's a difference, and Americans use 'insure' for both meanings.

Careful you don't confuse American English with Internet Forum American English, and nindeed Internet Forum English in its entirety. Even worse than insure/ensure is "they're/there/their", "your/you're" and "where/were/we're". And it doesn't come exclusively from American posters.
