Forums - Microsoft - Halo: Reach - First 15 milion seller ?

Why would Reach outsell Halo 3? It might do more in the first week but I don't see why it would be higher lifetime.

Bigger install base, new gamers to accompany the ones who have been playing Halo since the original, etc. Many factors can contribute to Reach selling more.

'The HD generation' ?? lols

On topic, it's always possible, but I doubt it

It likely won't pass Halo 3 in sales.

While Reach could pass Halo 3 in sales (it's too early to tell! We don't know what the game is about), I highly doubt it will hit 15 million. No single SKU HD game this gen will hit 15 million.

why?

Because X360 games have no right to embarrass PS3 games sales even further

Sequels just generally don't do as well for big franchises, unless an increase in quality is there, and Halo 3 set the bar too high in my opinion.

Gran Turismo 3 outsold Gran Turismo 4

Metal Gear Solid 2 outsold Metal Gear Solid 3

Final Fantasy X outsold Final Fantasy XII

Halo 3 is around 10.30 million and still rising, who knows how high it will end up, but I don't think it will be reached (harrrrrrrrrr).

With all due respect, everyone said the same thing with Halo 3. Noone believed Halo 3 would trounce over Halo 2's sales. Especially not getting 10 million. ODST is an expansion. Best ever selling expansion. We cant expect everyone to buy an add on. But Reach has every oppurtunity to sell 15 million lifetime. I believe Halo 3 will finish around 12 million in 2 years time. So an extra 3 million isn't alot for this franchise.

mwe do know what Reach is about. Thats why Halo fans know it is gonna be the best Halo game ever. Read the book Fall of Reach. The lines in the trailer for Reach are taken straight from the book. To say it will be a massive scale war is an understatement. And there is over 100 Spartans.

Until definite and concrete information is released in regards to Halo Reach, let's not worry whether it'll sell 15 mil or not since it's very hard to tell right now.

ah but...

halo 3 > halo2 > halo CE

and there are plenty of other instances of  the same.  COD springs to mind.

True, but I think it has to do with when a series really hits it stride. I think Halo CE surprised many people, and built off word of mouth and amazing reviews. By the time Halo 2 was releasing there was major hype and the everybody knew the series, and it capitalized off that. Halo 3 was the first next-gen Halo following up on the most popular games of the last-gen, the amount of hype it had was enormous. I'm not sure if Halo 3 ---> Halo Reach will be anywhere near the changes from Halo ---> Halo 2, not just in gameplay but in public awareness.

Call of Duty is a bit similar. The series was always popular, but the great reviews and awesome gameplay of the 4th drove it into success it had never experienced before. MW2 is the true sequel, and I see it has the "Halo 2" of last gen saleswise, the new level awareness and hype should push it passed the sales of the first game.
