Forums - Gaming - Why in hell Castlevanias never became million seller series???

Well since my friend just bought Castlevania from XBL and I saw him playing hour, I got my usual "legendary games feeling": I must go and byu Ds and Castlevanias again..

Then I wonder why they have all sold so low?

But it is great series. It is old series. Its very unique series.Latest games have all been on Ds which it fits great. It has always got great review scores.

Castlevania on 64 has sold 0,64m as highest sold Castlevania game.

Wöt the fök.

Because people are philistines.

Perhaps because it's 2D... it seems difficult getting a 2d series off the ground... unless it's a fighter....

I am absolutely positive that CAstelvania SOTN sold well over a million...probably 2-3 million on PS1 alone...and it came out on saturn, psp, 360, ps3 after... The word of mouth on that game was nuts as it is one of the best games ever made.

Also other castlevania games that sold over 1 million - Super castlevania(snes), Castlevania 3(nes), Simonn quest(nes), Castlevania (nes)...hell even Bloodlines on genesis most likely sold around a million mark. There jsut isn't any data on this stuff.

As far as rest of them after SOTN, they didn't sell over a million because they weren't that good. There hasn't been a good console castlevania for over 10 years.

Or Platformer. 2d Platformers sell amazingly in japan.

Because not many people are that interested in 2D metroidvania games any more.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Well, Shadow Complex sold well enough.

You're right though. There is no accounting for bad tastes.

Also, it's the 3d games that sold shittily, not the Metroidvanias. They still eek out a fanbase on the DS.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Actually, the DS games are magnificant. I think OOE probably slightly surpassed SotN in overall game quality. Only problem is SotN did it first, and so perfectly, that slight improvements on the formula or the game won't ever surpass that game in my eyes.

I don't think I'm in the niche when I think that a game like SotN deserves millions of sales, new or old, and I think people who don't think it does or people who would rather play a shitty game just because it's in 3d, have terrible tastes, yes.

Im not surprised DS games are amazing quality. The GBA games like circle of new moon and harmony of dissenence were 9/10 type of games in my eyes. Adding touch screen mechanics and more powerful hardware would only make the games better. Unfortunately I never had a DS. One day.... SOTN did it first tho...like you said...

BTW...Did you ever get full 200% map coverage in SOTN? I had jury duty last week so I played through SOTN on the PSP...probably for the 10th time, and I cant get the final 2%...stuck at 198%...

Castlevania Lord of Shadows will change this. It looks like God of War on crack and is directed by Kojima. It will have super hype to.

Between PS3 and 360 it should do over 1 million units.

But yeah SOTN has to sold over 1+ million between XBLA/PS1 and what not.

The NES castlevania had to sold a lot as well?

It's just that simple.
