Thanks for the honour Alacrist... Back on-topic: GoW II Will be the last time a PS2 game will be top of the charts for America. Later on the system will start to sell less and less units but it will still be remarkably good till end 07. Because of the HUGE userbase it will still be supported by major developers like Midway, EA, Ubisoft, Take2 and others... The sales will really slow down after that and only EA will bring FIFA to it in the end of 08... :P... Just like Fifa 04 on PS1. My guess is it will be in the state the NGC is now around Jan/March 08.

In Japan the PS2 has already lost its momentum. In the case of the US, I think the PS2 will lose its momentum this holiday season. The 360's price will drop causing the Wii to follow suit. So I'm guessing shoppers be able to choose between: Wii: $149 to $199 (Depending on the 360 price drop) 360: $199 to $249 (Core/20GB model) $299 to $349 (Premium/Elite/120 GB model) PS3: $399 or discontinued (20GB model) $499 (60GB Model) GC: $79 PS2: $129 A lot of this depends on MS and the Core model of the 360. If MS keeps the Core model and sells it for $199, the Wii will have drop to $149. If MS cans the Core model, which the should, BTW, I see them selling the 20GB as the new Core at the $249 price range with the 120GB priced $100 higher. Sony will have to give the PS3 some sort of price cut. I guess $100. With retailers not stocking the 20GB, Sony would be wise to can it and lower its manufacturing cost by manufacturing a single model. This is unless they can manage to sell it for $399 and get retailers to actually stock it.
I don't think it will slow down much this year. I think perhapse mid 2008 is when it will happen. There aren't many big title scheduled beyond God of War 2, but given the huge list of past games it will continue to hold on well. I think the 360 will pass it in monthly sales this holiday season, and the PS3 will do it sometime early next year. After that it will drop and by the end of 2008 it will clearly be a fourth place console. Though I expect Sony to keep producing them at least through 2009.
Sony only makes a very slim profit on PS2 hardware right now. Same with Nintendo on the Gamecube. So I see the price cuts coming slowly, and only being 10 and 20 bucks, until it gets to that 50 dollar price point maybe 3 years from now. Final shipments will comfortably top 130 million.
"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
The PS2 is entering the 'throw away console' mode. It is getting so cheap that some people will buy it for one game. I highly doubt that Nintendo would drop the price of the Wii in reaction to a 360 price drop. Nintendo doesn't need to. Wii offers so much more the 360 can't. The wii doesn't add that much more then the 360 does, if they are around the same price I can guarantee that the xbox 360 will sell more then the wii, to a casual buyer it has a wider selection of games. (Even if all the developers go to the wii it will still take them around 2 years to get the games ready) The hardcore fans will want it, because of halo and the older generation will want it because of its compatibility with the computer. And since its games look alot better the wii, it will be choosen more then the wii. If anyone thinks this console war is over, they are in for a shock. Microsoft and Sony aren't going to sit back and watch Nintendo take the market.
