Forums - Sony - Is UNCHARTED 2 turning out to be a system seller?

PS3 slim + 250GB + Uncharted2 = 349 euros? in Greece? It screams: OMG BUY ME NOW!

Yes this was surprising. I don't think anyone was expecting it to be a system seller.

I can't tell if your being sarcastic or not... assuming you are.

Games like U2 are more likely to be system sellers because they appeal to a wide audience

I was not being sarcastic no. Uncharted is not only a sequal to a game that came out this gen, but a sequal to a game that did not move systems at all.

The reasoning that its not the first uncharted game this gen is somewhat flawed - U2 seems to have made leaps in game quality according to the game reviews (haven't played the game myself).

I know a few people who bought PS3s for the game.. but I am not sure if they were bundles.. a few bought em earlier

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

Well Uncharted 2 is advertised well unlike the first game and the PS3 is cheaper of course it's going to move systems. But a 25% increase over about 75k last week would put it above 90k so 15k to 20k isn't a huge spike but enough to give Naughty Dog some congrats (and a bit to Sony marketing for doing some good ads for a change)

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

I have always been anti-PS3 pretty much since it came out. Up until this point, I have had more than enough of my gaming fill with Wii60. But after looking into Uncharted 2, I am much more tempted to buy one. I actually found a used 80 gig model on amazon for only $220, which is a great deal, and I also still get some degree of PS2 BC which is huge for me. I think once I get my next paycheck, I might finally pick one up and complete my gaming console trifecta...

There have been a few games that have caught my interest like LBP, MLB The Show, and Ratchet and Clank, but I think Uncharted 2 is the game that has finally made me cave in and pick up a PS3.

Buying a used console wont help the gaming industry!

Buying a used PS3 does help Sony. No loss on the sale, no warranty (probably) and the guy goes out and buys U2. That's all pure profit.

And maybe another controller, and a headset and some PSN credit ...

Indeed its an awesome game and one of the best ever made, but judging from other games it just didn't look to me like games that already had one installment this gen had it's sequal sell more than the first game.

It's also a IP that's only been around this gen... Anyways I was surprised about the boost in either case.

Check out my game about moles ^

Because it is not one more great game. It is one of the greatest games of all time (critics and gamers agreeing on that) . That is the difference. I think we will see great legs for this game. The holidays can't wait!

It wouldn't surprise me given all the hype and also the 24 perfect scores on Metacritic. The PS3 slim only makes the deal more attractive.

Though technically any game that sells at least 1 system could be called a system-seller, the meaningful use of the term should come from ability to provide significant boost of hardware sales in long term, thus having a big impact on overall market position of given platform (unless this isn't a console launch or game that huge that it could push significant ammount of consoles in couple of weeks). Depending on will or will not U2 be able to increase hardware sales in long term it may or may not be a system-seller.

If we put it into perspective: ODST (+20% NA), U2 (+25% NA), WSR (+75% NA), MH3 (+320% Japan) - very different hardware boosts first week, but up to this point none of these games is system-seller, hardware sales fell down pretty quickly after release date. But there's chances for some of mentioned games to become one, since holiday season is close at hand.
