Final Fantasty vs Dragon Quest - Which is more popular in Japan.

Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are both very popular, similar games theyve been out around the same time. Worldwide obviously FF is more popular but for just Japan which is the more popular franchise?

I know DQ9 is selling very well on the DS but that is the DS so it probably would.

But if a Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy sequel came out that wasnt a spinoff but part of the main series and came out on the same platform which franchise would be more successful?

Every generation besides this one they have been on the same platform and every generation DQ sells more in Japan then FF.

Its pretty damn obvious which is more popular. Numbers don't lie...

If you don't see it the numbers only way, DQ is still the most popular franchise by a mile in Japan, they love everything DQ in there, and in terms of merchandise, DQ also outshadows FF

No, it wasn't. DQVIII outsold both FFX and FFXII in Japan.
