If Sony would market the SHIT out of this game, this could be the next Halo, honestly.

Anyone agree?

No. Even at the height of its populairty (and I mean it was all over the news) The highest any Tomb Raider game got was just below 5 million.

That's about the level this game can sell.

So it's not just a tomb raider rip off anymore. It will only sell what tomb raider sells now too.... So many things wrong with that statement that I don't even know where to begin so I wont.

Good, I don't want to hear it.

@JerCotter7

He didnt mean that Uncharted 2 will sell Tomb Raider levels, 750k LTD,but he means it will be luckly if it gets 5 million LTD like Tomb Raider did when it reached its popularity.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Uncharted, I'm digging Uncharted 2, and they totally deserve all the praise they're getting, but come on, anyone who says that everything from the Uncharted series isn't a blatant rip-off of another game or movie is fooling themselves.

Again, nothing wrong with that since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, just wanted to point that out.

I don't post much but this comment really annoyed me.

I mean does that really need to be said?

Calling it a blatant rip-off is ridiculous to begin with, but  I can't think of anything that this game straight up imitates.  I love both uncharted games and I hated tomb raider.  (I'm assuming that's what you're saying uncharted ripped off.)  Yes it does borrow inspiration from other games and movies (Tomb raider, Indiana Jones etc.); but can you name a single game that is completely original?

Well lets look at what makes Uncharted:

  • Cover -- Gears wasn't the first game that did cover but they are the ones that did it well and made it good.  Uncharted pretty much uses Gears cover system and while I don't think Uncharted does cover as well as Gears, they still do it fine.  Go through Geras and really diect their cover system and then go through Uncharted and disect their cover system and you'll see they are the same systems.
  • Gunplay -- I guess it's almost unfair to this is an imitation of another game but it is.
  • Platforming -- Yes, they did get inspiration from Romb Raider and it's not that oh just because it's a platformer, it's a ripoff.  The important thing that Tomb Raider did was introduce the idea of always making you look awesome and always make you look like you *just* made that jump.  As long as you jump within a certain area, you'll make that jump but Drake might stumble a little, or a pipe might give way, or anything that makes it look like you barely made that move but still did so you're awesome.  That's what Tomb Raider did well and that's what Uncharted took.
  • Story -- General 80's adventure-- Raiders of the Lost Ark, Romancing the Stone, ect.  Couldn't be more cookie cutter but that isn't a bad thing since they did it so well.

And I could rattle off an entire list of important games that did things well and original and I have before (I can't find the thread unfortunately and I'm not typing it again just for your entertainment-- if you want to look I believe it was called Games that Mattered).

Like I said, anything that denies Uncharted borrowed from many different games to make Uncharted is just fooling themselves.  Also like I said, borrowing from all those game is not a bad thing and I don't get why people are taking it as some huge offense when I say that.  It is widely accepted that Uncharted is a jack of all trades that does much from other games but masters none.  Again, not a bad thing at all, Uncharted is a great game.

Since you decided to overdo it and talk in absolutes, why don't you tell me where they ripped off their snow effects, Twesterm?

I'm talking about their gameplay here since that's what matters to me.

Btw Twesterm, if you weren't a mod I would probably moderate for derailing a perfectly good thread about a great developer into another FUCKING thread about how unoriginal Uncharted is. You disappoint me.

Meh, if I deserve a warning I deserve a warning but I was simply pointing out a flaw in the article so I wasn't going so off topic like posting random cat pictures.  :-p

I just hope it gets success it deserves

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Twesterm are you being serious?
i guess batman should be a rip off of splinter cell + bionic commando by your logic.

Although I don't this game is as good as it's review scores are, I really freaking want this game badly.

Looks incredible, but I won't buy into these review scores. I'm just going to ignore them and try to enjoy the game.

Why not?

Mostly because of my exerience with the first Uncharted. I liked it and thought it was a good game, but I didn't think of it as AAA quality. I thought it was a solid 85% (or around that range) game. I'll be the first to admit that Uncharted 2 looks like it destroys the original Uncharted. In fact, I think Uncharted 2 is probably the best game released all year. However, is the increase in quality really that great? I can see my 85% going to about 90-91%, but all the way up to 96%? I'm doubtful. A score that high is beyond AAA, it's generation-defining and legendary. Could you really say that about Uncharted 2?

Good Job, they deserve it. They not only improved on the previous iteration, but they proved that you can push the power of the PS3 even further. They just an example for every future developer out there.

This is the true definition of owning.
