Forums - Sony - A question about GT5's damage model.

After 5 minutes hand-on with certain other "definitive" racing game on another console, I was quite disappointed when my car, traveling at highspeed, had a head-on collision with another car, and all i saw was 'paint job' damage. (after the car flips over in mid air)

I'm not asking for Burnout style damage here, just something fairly realistic, after all, we are playing a racing "SIM"

Will this be the same with GT5???

We will have to wait and see

Yes it will be the same cause thers no signs of chassis deformation in GT5 either. Maybe in next gen.

Although I would guess the front bumper could fall off in a frontal collision in GT5.

^actually they just said reason for the march release was new deformation engine.
no premade damaged models

What Xoj said. In a recent interview (darth already posted this) Yamauchi-san said this. He had a go at Forza 3 in a less arrogant way than Turn10 did at GT5. Infact he didnt even mention the name Forza..

Judging by the damage videos so far, I would have to say GT will used the same pre-made damage models. There have been articles to the contrary, but nobody will know for sure for quite some time. Did the car drive differently after the collision? The physics modeling would be more important to me than the cosmetic.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

this really is getting ridiculous

a full speed head on does NOT only mean slight paint damage.. what setting did you have the damamge on? cosmetic? limited? simulation?

and to answer your question... nobody knows... gt5 is months away...

^ This. It matters which damage setting is on as well, it could have been cosmetic damage, also i heard that the car manafactuers can also determine the damage show on their car.

Kaz says real time damage deformation is what GT5 will have. He also said to 'expect perfection.'

Take that as you will.

@puffy

he also said it was ready and could be released anytime...

It could be released anytime, they just want to perfect it more and add more features

Well according to the latest interview with Yamauchi he said that a new damage engine is being put into place and the team is very hard at work doing that. That is backed up by the TGS trailer seen behind closed doors by journalists where they said the damage was MUCH better.

Also there was night racing in that trailer. :D

Simply cannot wait for that trailer, if all goes well chances are it will be shown in a couple weeks during the Tokyo Motor Show which is funded by PD.
