Forums - Sales - PS3 will never beat 360 this generation.

The PS3 introduced a new redesign AND introduced a much more impressive price cut and yet they can barely stay over 360 in Americas after 1 month (week of oct 3rd's sales figures are very close now). That is not a good sign.

Worldwide, you'd think that the PS3 would catch up eventually but the MS has more options they can consider at this point to stay competitive. The 360 price cut doesn't even hold a candle to the PS3 price cut so MS has a lot more room to initiate further cuts. The entry cost for a PS3 is now $300, instead of $400 and you get 50% more HD space AND a slim redesign added bonus (80 to 120) whereas the entry cost for a 360 is still $300 (you just have double the hard drive space for that price now). And no the Arcade doesn't count because it's a very barebones system that's only good for offline. Sony really went all-out with this huge price cut and since their system costs more to make than a 360 (Blu-Ray, Wi-Fi, Cell processor is more expensive), we know Sony is bleeding much more than Microsoft is on their hardware. Heck MS might not even be bleeding at all on hardware anymore. Microsoft can easily counter with a $50 price cut if they really wanted to. In fact they should. It would take the wind out of the PS3's sails in Europe/Others, the swing region warzone. Whatever they do, MS is not just going to sit there while Sony eats away at their lead in Europe/Others. Japan is already lost (though they shouldn't give up on Japan. They improved quite a bit from last gen), America is already in the bag so you know Europe/Others will be a priority for them. That's where the race will be won or lost.

With MS having deeper pockets and cheaper hardware, red inked Sony doesn't want to play the price slashing game with them. MS can eat the losses no problem whereas Sony's shareholders would be calling for their head if they bled the company further. Sony really made a big desperation move releasing a slim with 50% more HD space at $100 off.

I couldn't have said it any better myself ^^^^

Sony make the slim and ps3 fans think that Microsoft are just gonna stand there and take it?

Call of Duty WM 2 360 console bundle will sell well (plus COD already sells much better on 360 than ps3)

GTA stories from liberty city will provide a boost, Forza 3's excellent review scores will provide a boost too VS only uncharted 2 thats exclusive for ps3 this fall.

Microsoft are practically tightening the noose around sonys neck this gen (3rd party exclusives are literally gone from sonys repertoire)

And sonys 2nd party exclusives are hardly setting the world on fire in terns of sales are they? (LBP, Killzone ect aint sold much)

And lastly......... Look at how well Left 4 Dead sold on 360 with NO BUNDLES compared to LBP and Uncharted that were bundled to death.

If Microsoft start bundling games like Left 4 Dead 2 and Alan Wake then they are gonna be dishing out a whole lot of pain to Sony in 2010.

WTF, how is the PS3 decreasing, it has been increasing for the LAST 2 WEEKS!!! @Ronster, your saying the 1,000,000th Halo game will move more hardware then GT5 and GOWIII which have never been on PS3 before? Common get real. Even Uncharted 2 will give a bigger boost to PS3 hardware then Halo Reach.

I would almost bet that by this point in these console's lifetimes that a game considered a "system seller" does not exist. I can't think of anyone finally liking a game enough to buy a console after 4 years on the market, 3 years in the PS3's case. If they don't like any games well enough now then they won't be in this current gen. Most likely at this point it comes down to price. If the 360 stays lower then the PS3 it will always compete. People who have not bought into this generation are just waiting for the sweet spot on the price. We all know that is $199. PS3 isn't there yet, the 360 is with the arcade. Yes I know its the arcade so lets all just be patient until PS3 or the Elite hits the $199 point then we will know who will win.

mhm lots of 360 fans just joining in today..

Anyhow, I love that carl is here, it makes me not needed for anything

@tuscaniman, I totally agree with you, very logical answer.

Way too many unknowns at this point to make that call.

No-one knows how Natal will hold up, or how the PS3 will sell next Year/Holiday compared to the 360.

One thing is certain though, the 360 will be beaten for the rest of this year by the PS3.

Come on, time to face facts.................. Sony just played their last trump card (ps3 slim) and all the more worryingly for sony is that they were forced in to launching the slim in order to stay in the game.
(I suspect it was launched earlier than planned too which obviously doesn't help their situation)

Sales have been good for sony lately thanks to the slim (or "last throw of the dice" as i like to call it) but Microsoft still have plenty left in the tank in terms of price drops and appealing bundles ect.

3rd place is beckoning for sony......... bottom line____________________

dude you bias is stupid! especially the part about microsoft having more left in the tank! the last price drop hardly raised 360 sales. price isnt a factor for 360 anymore. the only increases 360 is gonna see now are huge game releases.

Whats so stupid about it? (people who know me here know that i openly despise sony for various reasons) theres no doubt in my mind that sony launched the slim early due to the batterings that they were taking from Microsoft prior to its release.

Sure, there was a small price cut for the 360, but that was simply done to steal a "little" bit of thunder from the slim.

I stand by what i say........... the slim was sony's "last throw of the dice" for this gen.

Microsoft will beat them, and beat them good and proper.

What you are essentially saying is that Sony can't drop the price of the PS3 any lower, but MS can drop the 360 lower.

And that GT5 and GoW3 won't shift hardware, but 360 still has games that will with bundles.

That is what's stupid about it.

Sony dropping the price again anytime soon would be nothing short of suicide, Microsoft on the other hand have tonnes of room for cuts and bundles.

God of War 3 will sell consoles? Thats news to me Carl..................

GT5 yes.......... but apart from a small bump GOW 3 no.

And next year theres the small matter of a TRUE sequel to Halo 3. (you know it and i know it will sell multi millions)

And lets not forget that EPIC are practically in bed with Microsoft these days so its only a matter of time before Gears of War 3 is announced.

As for the rest of Sonys games........... all they have that can sell high apart from GT 5 is FF XIII, (now a multiplat game) the rest of the games like MAG, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and lets say for the sake of it resistance 3 can easily be matched by microsoft with games like Alan Wake, Crackdown 2 & Splinter cell: conviction.

Sorry to say it pal, but maybe its time some sony fans realised that they have finally more than met their match.

ok let me get this straight! beware, what im about to say is gonna make you look like a fool! your telling me that GT5 aint gona give the ps3 a big boost, the first gt on ps3 but the 3rd installment of gears of war  and that new halo is gonna give the 360 big boosts when there have already been several parts on the 360? how can anyone take you seriously after saying that!!

I already said that GT5 will sell consoles............. but i don't think GOW 3 will. (bump YES, major hardware seller NO)

God of War sold 3.21 million....... how on earth will it be a hardware seller? (Christ, Fable II is already at 3 million+ sales after only 1 year on the market AND Gears of war 1 & 2 are both 5 million+ sellers)

If Fable 2 (Sequel to an origional xbox game) can't shift hardware then how on earth do you expect God of War to shift hardware?

And let me get this straight........... your gonna make me look a fool? Good luck with that pal.

This Gen Microsoft have an answer for ANYTHING that Sony can throw at them........... Bottom line________________________

@ronster, you do know that 85% of all PS2 games were pirated, if they wernt, GOW would be at 5-6 million right now.

They didn't stand there and take it. They released a Halo game and reduced the price of the best model (on Slim launch day). And it didn't work.

MW2 bundle will be limited as it is a special edition console, not to mention un-official PS3 bundles too.

Red- Those games will boost 360, but GoW 3 wont boost PS3?lol. Also, Tekken 6 is getting bundled with PS3 which will be a good seller.

Green- Demon's Souls, Final Fantasy 13, R&C: Crack in Time also... Probably missing a few out.

And 2 Million+ sales in under a year "aint much"?

Blue- If Sony start bundling games like God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5 and Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy 13 and Mod Nation Racers and The Last Guardian and Agent and Final Fantasy Versus 13 and White Knight Chronicles then they are gonna be dishing out a whole lot of pain to Microsoft in 2010.

Interesting isnt it? And look at what kind of treads are going on recently....some are geting out of control. Anyway, common sense is nonsense in these kind of treads, so, I am out.
