I don't think Wii > PS3 is going to be the new standard in Japan. Sony is re-branding itself and I think the slim will stick. Wii may outsell it next week but it wont be the ongoing norm like it was before. You guys get a little too upset over this stuff though, no one knows for sure what's gonna happen, no matter what occurred in the past. I bet PS3 wins a few times in Oct and even November when NSMB Wii launches(not that week though). Only time will tell.

Edit: Seems like Mario is in December. I'm not sure if PS3 will win that month but I think FFXIII will move more consoles than NSMB Wii. I also think FFXIII will sell a lot more than people think.

Wii's hand this holiday is just stronger, stronger games lineup and bundles, PS3 has one big game this holiday in Japan, FF13, which is already getting disappointing sales predictions from two of the major tracking firms in Japan

It does have a stronger software lineup but I'm not sure those games will sell hardware. PS3 has a lot more market potential in my opinion. As for the low predictions, I have to laugh at those. They're going to be dead wrong. 1.5 million total for FFXIII? Not a chance it's going to sell that low.

You don't think that MC and Famitsu have a better handle on the Japanese market than you?  If it was just one, maybe I might say you could be right, but both are saying around the same lifetime sales (1.5 famitsu, 1.7-1.8 MC)

Actually with all the bundles Nintendo is releasing, they probably will sell a great deal of hardware, not to mention the Wii tends to scale up very nicely in sales at the holidays

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Of course they do, that doesn't mean they're always right and I'm always wrong. Weren't they just wrong about Vesperia PS3 sales? predictions are predictions. I'm making one that FFXIII will sell a lot of PS3s and easily pass 1.5 million. I'm gonna say it sells over 2 million. Famitsu and MC are probably right about most games they predicted this year, not this one.

Holiday boosts are not exclusive to Wii either.

Yeah but they're greater for Wii

We'll have to see how things play out for FF13

I think we should probably also wait for Media Create hardware numbers.

They had the PS3 at only 39k last week, so if it dropped again this week, it could even be sub-30k on Media Create charts.
機種 販売台数
DSi 53,293
PSP 51,215
PS3 37,538
Wii 35,392
DS Lite 10,661
Xbox 360 4,244
PS2 2,179

Media Create actually has PS3 slightly higher than Famitsu this week, but I'm pretty sure both PS3 and Wii will drop below 30k during October, maybe down to 25k or so before some decent releases at the end of the month and beginning of November.

Weekly sales figures only provide a snapshot of what is actually happening. Wii sales have had a decent boost, but I think the bigger boosts will come in Oct/Nov/Dec in NA/EU, and in Nov/Dec in Japan. I think this price cut is going to have a big effect when people are out and about at retail doing their shopping for the holiday season. Plus, this year will be the first year Wii isn't supply constrained through Oct-Jan. Although I'm not sure if that applies to Japan?

Regardless, these next few months will be interesting in Japan. I think Wii has what it takes to come out on top though. The PS3 does have a great line up, but it still doesn't have the mass market appeal Wii has had since day 1. And with Mario coming, and Wii Fit Plus/Resort already on the market, I think combined with the abundance of stock and the new price point, Nintendo will come out on top. That being said, I expect PS3 to have a great couple of months in Japan.

MC had PS3 last week at 40k, this week at 37.5k
2.5k drop, i wouldn`t call a big one, especially on 5th week since pricecut.
It could be, that PS3 sales in Japan stabilized at 35-40k+ range for the rest of year.

Just because they make a h/w bundle does not guarantee sales.

PSN - hanafuda

The Wii is by no means dead, but this will be their worst year ever. The PS3 is going to enjoy a good sales boost through to the end of 4th quarter. After the holiday season its over, but their sales will be steady.

You're backpeddlin' now, Zorro...  :)
