Description: Today’s Sales Battle is between two of 2008’s holiday titles.  Both games were new properties and both featured user generated content. Currently Wii Music has a ~200k lead, but is being outsold by LittleBigPlanet on a weekly basis.  Which game do you think will end up with the higher total sales? Vote in the poll and then leave a comment letting us know what you think.

What Little Big Planet has going...

For it - Outselling Wii Music by around ~15k a week and increasing. The game of the year version just released. On pace to overtake Wii Music in about 10 weeks.

Against it - Still has the 200k deficit to overcome, possible that recent surge in sales will die down now that the game of the year version has been out for awhile. Maybe the PSP game releasing could hurt the sales of this version?

What Wii Music has going...

For it - Currently has the sales lead. Possible that the recent Wii price cut will cause an increase in sales for the game.  So far "Wii" titles have always sold really well during the holidays.

Against it - Being outsold on a weekly basis.  New potential "evergreen" titles may reduce sales even further.

As much as I like Wii Music, it looks like LittleBigPlanet turned out to have more longevity in the end.

Right now it is looking like LittleBigPlanet will pass Wii Music, but if the Wii price cut causes a big increase in sales, it is possible Wii Music will increase its sales again. What do other people think?

LittleBigPlanet :]

Battlefield Bad Company 2 > Modern Warfare 2

LBP; alas, Wii Music had a good run.

It would need to triple sales to keep pace. I just don't think that a hardware boost will do that for Wii Music.

Nintendo would have to decide that they like the idea of cutting the price on their software.

I can't believe Wii music has done so well...

LBP, multiple GOTY winner, beaten by THAT?!

Wii Music is fantastic.

This comparison seems somewhat unfair. Have a look at this: http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Wii+Music+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=LittleBigPlanet+-+PS3&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100&weekly=1

LittleBigPlanet has had a large boost in the previous few weeks. Before that, it was pretty much tieng Wii Music (LBP sold ~ 1-2K more on a weekly basis).

The reason for this is simple: LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year edition launched on the 8th of September. That boosted its sales, thus making this comparison (somewhat) flawed.

They're actually selling close to tied, and I expect that they should go back to even sales not too soon.

Another thing that is pro-Wii Music, is the fact that it's still selling at an RRP of 39.99 euros, whereas LittleBigPlanet is at 19.99 euros. (According to Amazon, which sells both at 18 euros, but Amazon's price isn't all that relevant).

Then there's LittleBigPlanet PsP. Will that boost LBP, or will it kill off LBP? It's launching at the same price as LBP Ps3 is (in Europe, at least), which means that it could kill off the console edition. It depends on whether LBP PsP lacks a lot of the Ps3 version's features.

I think these two titles are going to end at a virtual tie.  LBP might have a small edge, but it depends on two things mainly.

1. What the PsP LBP does to the Ps3 LBP's sales.

2. If, and when, a Wii Music GOTY/announced pricecut comes. (As in, advertised pricecut).

Either way, this one is going to be incredibly close, and likely within 150K of each other.

I'm pretty sure a game actually has to win GoTY to get a GoTY version.
