Forums - Gaming - Why Do PS3 owners not buy exclusives

I exclusively buy exclusives (with the exception of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, which I bought because BestBuy had an in-store hardware bundle with a controller). I don't have time to play that many games (family / work come first), and I can only go so far with my current lack of sleep.

If there are any worthy multi-plats, I just get them for my PC.

Right, because if you don't like every PS3 exclusive you're automatically an Xbox 360 fanboy?

I won't make the list here because I don't want to derail the thread, but sure, I'll make one for the 360 exclusives I've played and message you.  Also, please do not call people fanboys.

I wouldn't say that you're a 360 fanboy.  I just remember back over a year ago when I was more active here on how "anti-Sony" you were.  Even when you got your PS3 you weren't even happy about it and hated it at first. So no, you wouldn't be a fanboy of any specific system if you ask me my opinion.   You've just were conditioned so much to hate everything Sony.  Time will get you to change your tune eventually when the really great IP's come out that are right down your alley.

But there is no rule that says that everyone who doesn't like a certain exclusive is a fanboy for another system.   Myself, I didn't care much for MGS4 and ended up trading it in (with a couple other games) for Rock Band 2.   LBP is a neat game, but it's good only in short bursts for me.

I bought Socom and the only good thing out of that was the headset.  Of course, I haven't tried it since they came out with the new patch, so maybe it will be a bit better now.

MAG... now that is a damn good game from what I have played in the Beta.  It really gave me the feeling of the old Socom, but with a hell of a lot more chaos going on.  Shame that they made it so easy to track down where the enemies are at.  Especially when I'm sniping and have a good spot to pick off a ton of baddies.

Uncharted 2, was in the beta for that as well and honestly, from what I've seen this game blows the first Uncharted out of the water.   And that is saying something because I absolutely loved Uncharted and thought it was the best single player game I've played in many years.  I will be buying this.  (Once I find work again, being laid off sucks).

I buy exclusives.   And I will continue to buy exclusives that I like.   I won't buy any exclusive just because it's an exclusive.  It has to be a genre I like, and if I'm interested I may rent it first and if I really like it after that, I'll buy the game.

1. Most people use PS3 as a Blu Ray player.

2. The price hindered the attach rate.

3. Sony rely too much on brand loyalty. They're stepping their game up, though.

4. MGS4 sold very well. Killzone 2 sold all right. LittleBigPlanet sold over 2 million, which is pretty good.

Most people use the PS3 as a blu-ray player? 'most people' you beleave that? haahahhaahahaha

Ok, then what if I said "a lot"? Will that make you happy?

huaxiong90,

I use my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player.  Does that mean that I cannot play games on it?   I buy and watch Blu-rays and PS3 games.

Sure, the price made it difficult for many to afford one and to buy one.  But that tune has changed and it is now only $300... Half the price it was at launch.   Neither the 360 nor the Wii have reduced their prices by a remotely similar percentage.

I think that many who have bought, or want to buy, the 360 are scared off because of the RROD numbers of faulty equipment.   You'll see a shift I believe now that the PS3 is at the $300 price point and more affordable to many.

I agree, most people do use the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player.   Also most use the PS3 as a gaming machine.  One is not mutually exclusive.

The PS3 is my favorite gaming machine this generation, don't get me wrong. But I think it's safe to say there's a good amount of people who use the PS3 strictly for its multimedia capabilities as well as a Blu Ray player, and maybe just 1 or 2 games on it. But yeah, now that it costs $299, which is the same price as a 360 elite, it should have a software sales increase for future games.

Get Uncharted after hating the demo? Uh.. what? I remember just after booting up the demo, the main character (Drake, is it?) uttered a terrible, cheesy one-liner as if he were some modern-day Bruce Willis in some crappy sequel or other. I don't like cheesey characters, lame dialogue or carbon copied twenty-something macho babe-magnet heroes in vests with cuts over one eye. It's all so overdone. I eagerly awaited the U2 preview at E3 this year to maybe change my view of Uncharted but it just seemed like another B-grade action movie.. running from one narrowly-escaped explosion to the next. Reminds me of "Calculon, there's a fire at the movie studio.. come quickly before a fiery explosion chases someone down a corridor!" So all in all, sorry Kantor..No Sale!!

As for LBP.. well maybe you're right.. maybe I didn't spend enough time with it. But Sackboy just made we want to punch him in the face.. a lot! I thought I would enjoy the game but i despised it. And please don't assume I though it was "too kiddy" after all I enjoy Lego Star Wars, Mario, Pikmin etc. I love Studio Ghibli Films too so I'm not in the least threatened by "kiddy" material. But LBP.. sorry, No Sale!

I also tried demos for Lost Planet, Resistance, Motorstorm, Folklore (with its hilarious misspelling of Irish mythological beings haha).. just so much meh!

I did forget a handful of PSN games though, I did enjoy Flower somewhat as well as Linger In Shadows. Wipeout just feels like an F-Zero clone though.

So you see I tried a lot of the games you suggested, but none of them were impressive really. I will say though that the Resi 5 demo made me buy a PS3, and the Katamari demo made me go buy the game at full-price. Oh and Eternal Sonata was a gamble that really paid off.. love it.

Sorry you couldn't convince me to buy your fave games, but anyway thanks for your time lol.

That is such bullshit. That may have been true during the first... 6 months of the PS3s life since there wasn't a very big library then, but it's been three years now. People aren't going out to buy it strictly as a blu-ray player...

This thread is so fucking full of retard.

inFamous and Valkyria Chronicles did HIGHLY well for what they are overall, KZ2 and MGS4 however... i can't think of any excuse of why they didn't sale insanely. >_>

Your assumptions about Uncharted are terrible. It's nothing like what you described. Don't take my word for it, take Twesterm's. You're new, so Twesterm isn't exactly well known for his love of everything Sony.

Uncharted* --I hated the Uncharted demo and wrote it off as a bad game for the longest time.  Luckily someone convinced me to give the game a try (and luckily someone else made me pick it back up a year later and actually finish it) since this has been my favorite PS3 game (counting non-exclusives).

Those who dislike Uncharted are in a tiny minority, believe me. Even those who share your opinion end up loving it. Trust me, Twesterm, VGC and the entire internet on this, and buy Uncharted. You won't regret it, I swear. If you do regret it, then at least you'll have tried, and you'll only be $30/£15 poorer for it.

I thought Sackboy was awesome, personally. But he could be annoying at times. Give the game another chance if you can, especially if you've never tried a Community level, and SUPER especially if you've never played multiplayer, because that's where the magic of the game is.

Lost Planet is crap, avoid that like the plague. The RFOM demo was pretty meh, the game is very good, but not among the best. I didn't like MotorStorm, though many did. I only played the Folklore demo, I thought it was decent. Some around here love the game.

WipEout is basically an F-Zero clone. But glad you liked Flower. I liked Linger in Shadows, but it was short. Really short. And weird.

Did you just say...the RE5 demo convinced you to buy a PS3? You didn't like the demos of RFOM, Uncharted or inFamous, but you liked the RE5 demo........

You're a lost cause, I'm sorry.

Odd, because MGS4 and KZ2 outsold inFamous and VC. Unless you're being sarcastic, in which case, bravo, pip pip, cup of tea and all that.
