Forums - Gaming - Why Do PS3 owners not buy exclusives

@CGI: After Wii Fit and Wii Play, reaching the amount of "one exclusive per console" isn't that much of a stretch... With 360 it could be a little different story, since it doesn't have the amount of big exclusives as Wii does.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

CAUSE TEH PS3 GOT TOO MANY EXCLUSIVES FOR MA TINY WALLLET

Seriously i don't buy PS3 exclusive because i have yet to own a PS3 :p PC gamer for LIFE (I’m actually waiting for SONY to release the real slim you know the one that say PSthree on the box like the PStwo and PSone)

(Hello all, long time lurker but first-time poster)

Only exclusives I've bought new are SingStar 1 & 2, and Katamari Forever.

I've tried demos for inFamous, Heavenly Sword, SW: The Force Unleashed, KillZone 2.. all the usual suspects but they didnt float my boat.

Looking forward to a few exclusives though.. Project Trico (can't remember its new name) FFvsXIII, WKC maybe.

MGS4 has sold over 4 million. What figure must it reach in order for it to be classed as selling?

Don't be ridiculous. It's an exclusive, it has to sell Halo numbers, or it's a flop!

In fact, even Halo is a flop for not selling Wii Fit numbers. And Wii Fit is a flop for not selling Tetris numbers. And Tetris is a flop for not selling SMB numbers.

SMB and Wii Sports are the only games in the world which are not flops.

OT: I buy exclusives. You buy exclusives. And if you think about it, how many Microsoft franchises actually sell that well? Halo, Gears and Fable. It's just that they sell so well that people forget that Microsoft's other franchises, like B&K and Lips, sell worse than pretty much any Sony franchise.

What's your excuse for not owning Uncharted? >_>

Yeah, try that demo out. And buy the full game whether or not you like the demo, because most people hated the demo and ended up loving the game. Also LittleBigPlanet. No demo, but it's still awesome.

Welcome to VGC, and we're going to keep pressuring you to get these games until you get them, so don't worry about forgetting

Thank you for your words of welcome.. I'm sure you weren't just buttering me up for your "Buy Uncharted & LBP" spiel. :p

Actually you may be on to something - I DID hate the Uncharted demo too! Felt like Tomb Raiding...

And as for LBP, I got the LBP 80-gig bundle (as it was the best price), traded in LBP the next day. I totally hated it.. sorry!!

I simply think, like most others, that the Playstation has never been home to a few, big selling titles. Simple as that. Sony has tried to achieve this, but so far hasn't really.

Halo, Gears, etc. sell very well on 360, but if you look at the multiplatform games they either sell more or less evenly in ratio (i.e. more on 360 but in ratio to the install base difference), the same or even sometimes more on the PS3 (which is pretty interesting, when you think about it, as it means the attach rate, etc. is higher for those titles).

Really, when you look at it, a few key titles aside, games sell roughly the same on PS3/360 and sometimes skew to PS3. Those key titles on 360 are however huge sellers in a manner not commonly found on PS3.

I think I took a lot of words to say something simple, I hope it makes sense!

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Becouse Sony so far has been mostly producing exclusives we did't want.
I mean just look at how much of effort has been wasted on freaking console FPSes.

Where are their rpgs, why did it took Gow 3 so long to come out , why is GT5 still not released. Those were games people wanted from PS3 not something that can be found in huge numbers on all platforms.

When the generational shift happened, and Microsoft got almost every major and minor third party exclusive the PS2 had, it split the userbase. PS2 owners bought exclusives all the time, but now most of their favorites are multiplatform. Sony's own games were typically not very dominant on their own consoles(besides Gran Turismo), but it wasn't so noticeable since third parties bulked up the list of wanted exclusives. The reason most of Sony's replacement exclusives don't do quite so hot is because so many of them are "Me too!" titles, and were built to appeal to bringing in the Microsoft fanbase, not keeping their own.

I see it a little bit differently.  I see it as the lack of M$ having a first party, so they tried to snag up every game that made the Sony brand popular so they could say "Look, we have these games too! You can buy Xboxes now!". They took the easy route instead of investing in their first party.

Now Sony's games aren't replacements, but rather new gems. And what does M$ have? Games that the PS3 has also....

Putting all companies into perspective, Phil Harrison said it best 4 years ago, I believe:

"Nintendo relies too much on their first party, Microsoft relies too much on the third parties, but Sony has a great mix of both as to appeal to just about everyone" (Funny because Nintendo is the one supposedly appealing to everyone nowadays, but you catch the drift)

Metal gear solid lifetime sales (worldwide) PS1 and PS2

MGS1 - 6 mil - lifetime
MGS2 - 7mil - lifetime
MGS3 - 4 mil - lifetime

MGS4 - 4.23 in a little over a year, and still selling 15,000-20,000 a week. lol The game is doing great. PS3 is the right system for all metal gear games.
