Forums - Sales - PS3 Q4 vs. XBOX360 Q4 = Uphill climb for SONY?

Very few people that are going to want one of these consoles are waiting for a new IP of any kind, they're waiting for price cuts and specific existing IP's.

True, which is why the only real "heavy hitters" on that list are GT5, GoW3, Splinter Cell, and Crackdown 2.  The rest are either sequels to games that have already been on the console or new IP's.

I think you're forgetting something.

The thing you're not factoring in there is price.  Whilst I fully agree that all four of those games (except Crackdown 2) will push sales (though SC:C and GoW3 won't do much when compared to GT5), other games like Halo: Reach, Fable 3 and Mass Effect 2 could do wonders (again, not GT5-like wonders, but wonders all the same) if combine with price points that didn't exist at their predecessors point of release.

@OP:
I don't consider you a PS3 hateboy or XB360 fanboy, but I guess you enjoy getting PS3 fanboys mad.
About your question, IDK, but I presume Sony won't arrive to Q4 2010 totally unprepared, if they do, they deserve defeat.

But all three of those go against the mantra you just said.  Why would people have been waiting for Halo, Fable, and Mass Effect before buying a 360?

Again, you ignored price.

If one wants those games but couldn't afford them at the price points for the console available at the time of the game's release, they would again consider a console purchase when the next game in the series released if there had been a price cut in between releases.

In the case of Mass effect in particular, we may well be looking at two price cuts in between releases.

Meh, you're overthinking it. Even with its semimeager sales on PS2 The Last Guardian has a better chance of selling hardware than any of those three since it hasn't had an iteration in the current generation.

Why are my posts being viewed as "anti-PS3"?

Why can't a mature conversation take place about the two consoles?

I haven't blasted the PS3 once in my two forum posts.

But if I don't heap praise on the PS3, I'm ANTI-PS3?

HUH?

Because the way you are putting it is like, "Oh yeah.. Sony has some good stuff"

Then your shining on Microsoft like it's some sort of God.

@starcraft

U can be sorry all u like ,starcraft it won't change a thing. And, do not put words in my mouth to suit you!

I never said; "bring large numbers of new gamers in" as u put it. I believe that I said "they will attract more new gamers to the HW" then the 360's massive 360 sequel line up.

Are u that dull u cannot see that games like Heavy Rain (new IP, art house game), GOW 3 (massive new update to a new gen, HD platform), The Last Guardian (new IP, art house game), M.A.G (new IP, tactical shooter), Agent (new IP from Rockstar North, spy sandbox game. Should be big, no?), FF14, White Knight Chronicals (new IP, western style JRPG), GT5 (SONY's biggest game. First full installment this gen. Big, no?), Mod Nation Racers, Quantum Theory, L.A Noire, David Jaffies big game (Twisted Metal Black?), Motion Controller and games; Ape Escape, EyePet, etc.

See, "all" these games are new IPs for the PS3 or brand new installments in this HD gen. M$ on the other hand has more of the very big sequel hitters, no?

Playing and finishing games first>>>>>>>>>>Then talking!

Opinions are subjective and just like moods, can change.

TOP 12: Deus Ex, Shadow Man, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturn, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Metroid Prime, Zelda (series), Uncharted (series), FF Tactics, Persona (series), Demons Souls, Vagrant Story.

MOST WANTED: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Last Guardian, ICO/Shadow OTC HD

Simple: GTA5 exclusive to PS3. :D

We can agree on the bolded.

As for the rest, it is MASSIVE hyperbole.  If you're suggesting that every one of those games will move at least some copies then yes you're correct.  But the same can be said for Carnival Games and Horsez.

The vast majority of the titles you just listed will have no noticeable effect on sales though.  In fact, the effect that GT5 will have will be equal to the combined effect the rest of your listed titles will have times two at LEAST!!!

Side note, I was under the impression that L.A. Noire was quickly becoming vapourware, and that if it isn't it is likely coming to the Xbox 360 as well?

SONY's strengths with all it's paltforms has always been diversity. JRPG's has been it's weekest side till now, thanks to M$'s big checks (which seem to have backfired).

I also forgot to mention the niche Atelier Ronora.
