Halo 3 ODST had an almost 80% drop in its second week, to 2.66m total.

Just for the record. Halo 3 had the same drop.

Okay. Well if the two games continued on the same pattern, given the difference in first week sales, ODST will be at 5.92 million at the same point in its life.

But it will only be at 3.96 million by the end of the year. Halo 3 sold "only" 6.85 million in 2007. So unless ODST outperforms Halo 3's drops and bumps for the rest of the year, it will not make the list in 2009.

Wonderful list. Thanks a lot for making it. Really had fun reading it.

I loved the fact that you included the games not in the top 50 that made over 4 mil. I hope you continue to update that part as well. Thanks a lot.

super thread

This week Pokemon Platinum inches up 2 spots, past Fifa 08 and Mario Party DS into the 28th spot. Wii Sports Resort is up just 1 spot to 39, passing Madden 08, but next week it may pass ProStreet, Gears 2, Kung Fu Panda and Twilight Princess.

CoD4 and GTA4 are still in a tie for 11th. 31st is now a 3-way tie, with Force Unleashed catching up to Gears 1 and Madden 09. 36th is now tied as well, with Gears 2 catching Kung Fu Panda.

In the "above 4 million" section, there is a new game, with Dragon Quest IX passing the mark. But sales are slow enough in Japan, that it is pretty much waiting for a western release for any chance at the top 50.

Halo ODST dropped slightly more than Halo 3 in week 3; 61% versus 58%. It is at 2.82m total with 174k sold week 3. Wii Fit Plus did decently so far, with .72m through 2 weeks in Japan and 1 in the Americas. LEGO Batman is really the only game "bubbling under" right now, as it waits for the 360 bundles to start trickling out.

Call of Duty 4 has passed Grand Theft Auto IV for the 11th overall spot.

I am generally using the rule "same name, same game," instead of trying to decide what does and does not technically qualify as the same game when it plays differently especially on a handheld platform. But in the case of Modern Warfare Reflex, I will count it with existing CoD4 sales, since it is much more the same game for Wii than the DS version which is already counted. Maybe CoD4 can reach Brain Age 2 sales, and, at least temporarily, break up the all-Nintendo top 10.

Wii Sports Resort is up into 35th spot as expected. Next week, it looks like it will pass no games, but in the two weeks after that, it should climb to 28th position.

After WSR 13 position climb, the next largest climbers since the original list are Pokemon Platinum, and the Force Unleashed, which are only up 2 spots. The biggest fallers are Gears of War, Kung Fu Panda, NfS Prostreet, and WWE 2008, which have only dropped 2 spots apiece. So basically WSR remains the only interesting thing on the list.

This week LEGO Batman reaches 4 million sales. So it will climb the list very quickly soon. The Sunday Best Buy flyer had the new 360 bundle in it, and I assume that SKU will comprise the majority of 360 sales for the next 2 months.

Fallout 3 is breathing down the neck of MGS4 for the 50th spot. The difference is now only 4.28m to 4.24m.

FIFA 10 is at 2.82 million. Madden 10 at 2.56m. Pro Evo 2010 opens at .46m. Mario and Sonic Winter is at .57m through 2 weeks.

In two weeks I will update the main list, as a pre-holiday-explosion sort of update. There should be at least one new game on the list, knocking out MGS4.

Not much this week. Mario Kart Wii has passed Brain Age for 6th on the list.

Hahahaha... Looks like Modern Warfare 2 should debut in the top 20. I wasn't really following week 1 predictions, but if current numbers hold up, it looks like a San Andreas sized hit.

Righto.

Wii Sports hits 50 million sold.
Wii Sports Resort jumps up to 29th position.
Resident Evil 5 jumps 2 places to 41st.
And Fallout 3 has earned a spot on the list for a single week, overtaking MGS4 for the 50th spot with 4.34 million.

Below the top 50, Lego Batman has built up to 4.14 million.
And Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is the 58th game of the generation to hit 4 million sold.
