Nice. I was hoping this'd be a failure :P PSP 3000 is the way to go. Seriously. they charge $250 for this thing (now it's even more than the Wii!) and it can't even play disc based PSP games due to no UMD meaning it's handicapped, they offer no solution to transfer PSP games to it...WTF??

Well said Soriku, sony messed the hell up BIG time with Go, if it was $100 Cheaper then maybe, but with no UMD solution its pretty screwed. 3000 > Go easy.

And please note, MAJOR PSP fan here, its my fave this gen so far.

What the hell happened to all the "Digital Distribution is the future" talk? I guess Sony made the mistake of listening to those people, because now they whine about not having the UMD drive, which I remember people whining about it using UMDs.

Oh well, I still love my -1000s. Both of them.

haha i know

I can't say that came as a surprise for me...If you want a PSP, get a PSP-3000.

Pretty much!

@wenlan

its the same price as a PS3 in the UK... it will bomb over here.. in a very big way.

It's the equivelant of $400 over here!

I was agreeing with you. Btw we had no PS3 pricecut either.

its not even fair to release a 250$ PSPgo with a 299$ PS3.

but its fair to release a $169.99 DSI with a $199 wii..

the value in the PSP is greater than its selling for, same goes for the PSP GO

I need to quote myself

Well isnt it ment to be competing with the iPod/iPhone and not the PSP 3000, nor the PS3? The iPod Touch 3G is at £200-250. And the iPhone is at £270-600.

The 3000 is still supported and the GO is for new customers. Gaining profit on both handhelds from day one allowes you to try out the market and see how it responds to Digital Distribution amongst other things. They cant "fail", but you can argue that they could've taken advantage of the GO's potential in a better way.

As long as Sony can afford to lower the price at some point next year then it won't be a problem. The PS3 had one of the fastest selling launches in history despite being significantly more expensive than any other console at launch. The problem was that Sony were unable to reduce the price in any significant way for years due to high production costs. I doubt this will be the case with the Go (although obviously I can't be sure) and so when the early adapter phase is over Sony can reduce the cost.
