Forums - Sony - IGN : PSP Go! REVIEW --- 7.2/10 (VALUE = questionable!)!!

Just a few points with this review (echoed in many opinions I have read about the PSP Go).

"Relying on users to disregard their previous UMD libraries or perhaps even alternate between the hard-copy and digital platforms is a pretty big gamble"

This only applies to people who already own a PSP and although there will be a number of them who upgrade to the new system, the Go is aimed at expanding the current PSP market therefore making the UMD issue irrelevant. I think that Sony is trying to tap into the success the Ipod has seen with its digital distribution and appear as the new 'cool' gadget as well as combating the threat posed by Apple with Sony releasing the PSP Mini's. They are also testing how the market may react to a switch to digital distribution and both Sony and Microsoft  will be watching the Go closely as its performance will heavily influence their next gen plans. I'm not defending Sony's position here, just raising a few points. I have absolutely no idea how well this is going to perform but unless it bombs then I think it will continue to gain momentum as developers and publishers see it as a way to increase profit margin. I agree that the price is ridiculous but that can be remedied after christmas when the early adapters have already bought it and Sony can then reduce the profit margin to appeal to the mass market.

Its good it makes them money, but I'm not a shareholder in SONY

I sold my PSP for a DS thinking I'll get a PSP GO!

but now I'll probably never buya PSP till FF agito 13.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Maybe getting rid of Kutaragi was a mistake afterall?

Who knows if they'll get their money back. You have to factor in the design, tooling of new production unit, marketing, network updates, etc. Even if the device makes a gross profit, when you add all these expenses together it might take quite a few units just to break even. And if it's the bomba I expect it to be, they may never get their money back.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Basicly most of the complaints i see in all the reviews is the price of the Go. I never use umds anyway (cause my umd drive broke a months ago) and find having multiple games on my memory stick alot easier. I think the pspgo is gonna be a hard sell for some but give it six months and im sure most people will have changed their minds. After we see how the service works and maybe a price drop. Thats if they ever wanted a psp in the first place, which i doubt most of the people complaining on most of these websites really ever did. Not saying everyone but most.

I still kind of want it as my next MP3 player. I wouldn't buy any games for it though, and I'd keep my 2000 (yes, I said 2000, not 3000. 3000 has a shitty screen with massive scan lines).

It doesnt matter.....the psp is still far too expensive that even using the word "expensive" is an understatement.

No UMD,worser feel than the psp 2000-3000, absolutely no improvements inside(except bluetooth)....all for the jacked up price of $250....

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

its the same price as a PS3 in the UK... it will bomb over here.. in a very big way.

then buy a PSP-3000, it's just that simple.

why would Sony want to sell PSPgo at a loss?  the cost will come down eventually and sony will price it lower.

PSPgo is a decent device, don't call it a bomb so soon.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

Couldnt they just make the PSP-Go instead a PSP-4000 with the look of the Go but also has the UMD drive? Im sure itll be a little thicker but not drastically and it'd still be appealing and compatible.

I dont care for the price as much, however the only reason i'd consider not getting this at all is simply that there's no UMD solution. At least give the code with the UMD game. I'd like to also own the physical copy, yet i dont want to have to buy a physical and digital of the same game if i get the PSP Go.

Yes but if price turns out to be the main problem that can be rectified very quickly and very easily assuming the Go isn't costing Sony a lot more than the 3000 model to make (which given its specifications I doubt it is). Regardless of its current obscene price there will be early adapters who still buy it, especially with the holidays coming up, allowing Sony to make a strong early profit before lowering the price if need be. We all know how expensive the PS3 was at launch and yet it was still one of the fastest selling consoles.

It will bomb hard.

For gaming people should just search for that extra £10 and buy a PS3.

If they want portable gaming get the 3000.

How the **** will it succeed? Sorry Sony but you have full on bullshited this one up.

EDIT: If the price was £170 they could be in good buisness.
