Wow, 800MB for the trailer. Hmmm.

i know...  imagine how big the whole game is going to be.

i wonder if SE would fit the game into a single layer blu-ray disc.

Well it has been said that it is 1blu-ray disc and 3 DVD discs but I don't know if this confirmed

Games are far more compressed. The consoles unpack them as the game goes along :)

If my memory serves me correctly Crisis Core is around 1.6GB and when unpacked it was in the 2GB's.

That's the point of BluRay. You don't need to compress anything and therefore you have no quality loss.

PS3 games are still compressed by a large amount.. Uncompressed 1080p video footage is fucking HUGE. It can be over 1Megabyte a frame. Uncompressed Audio and textures are also very large. Everything is rendered/recorded/created at the highest possible quality for games and then compressed to fit the required media storage.

For an example. Rage, Id Softwares upcoming game is sitting at over 1Terabyte uncompressed. Imagine Final Fantasy XIII uncompressed with their super high quality CGI scenes.

Rage will be squeezed into 1 Blu-Ray disc and 3 Dual layered DVD's.

Here are some more examples of completely uncompressed 1080p video files.

http://www.hdgreetings.com/other/ecards-video/video-1080p.aspx

Check out the file sizes... 2.29GB for 43 seconds of footage anyone?

Not true at all. We've had developers come out and say that they don't have to compress anything and leave it in pure quality. Take Resistance 1 and Ratchet for example. Both pretty small games coming in at 16 GB and 24GB respectively. A game like MGS4 filled the 50GB dual layer and had to compress a little bit at the end to fit it all. Certainly a game like MGS and only requires a small amount of compression even with tons of languages right there on the disc.

Also, Uncompressed 1080p video sizes are not a great comparisons. Especially so, that I can get awesome 1080p anime that's 25 minutes long and be under 1 GB.

Almost made me puke. Obviously it's a big production and all, but the world and setting of Final Fantasy is disgusting. It's kinda like a mix between that Milla Jojovitch movie where she's in the future with Bruce Willis (the name escaped me), mixed with the upcoming Avatar movie by James Cameron. That is, FF has not much affliction to cultural settings we're familiar with in human culture and cultural references, it's a cheezy mix of modern and futuristic style, quite superficial and false. Nothing much in it is genuine.

And all of this was spiced with pop music...

You make me puke.

Don't worry about slime, he's not a JRPG fan by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm pretty stoked for this, and I've never played a Final Fantasy game before.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

I'm sorry, but I didn't think even you could say something that stupid.

Thank you, but what's stupid about predicting a WRPG fan is gonna be disappointed with an extremely clichéd JRPG?

You are not friendly.

@Slimebeast

You say that you really wanted to like JRPG's this generation, but then you go ahead and call FF extremely cliched.
Granted, FF may not be everyone's cup of tea, but there are a lot of JRPG's that are far from cliched and that will annul every wrong notion of JRPG's, if you go play them with an open mind, because it's up to you to adapt to the game you're playing instead of the game having to be exactly like you want it, because no game will ever be like that.
If, and I put emphasis on the IF, you want to try some JRPG's that are different from the commom JRPG ground, i suggest you either play Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Raidou Kazuhona vs The Souless Army, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, Valkyrie Profile, Odin Sphere, Mana Khemia, Earthbound and Terranigma.
If you ever play one of them, you'll be in for a good surprise, as long as you don't go there just to trash the game, like what it seems you want to do for every JRPG.

I agree with this.

Slimebeast, I love WRPG's. I d think WRPG's this gen have done better than JRPG's have ever done. Largely thanks to Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and Oblivion. But Lost Odyssey, Valkyrie Chronicles and White Knight have all impressed. As have Tales Of Vesperia and FF13 looks like it's shaping really well. Also End Of Eternity looks good to. Give some a chance and try them. Lost Odyssey was a really good game. Many PS3 owners will tell you that Valkyrie was awesome to.

Best trailer i ever seen. SE know how to raise hype. FFXIII along with FF Versus XIII gonna be the best game ever.

Lightning/Noctis >>>>>>>>>>>> everyone else.

Lestatdark u listed lots of unknown JRPGs. Im not familiar with them, xcept for Valkyri Stories, but I saw that on that site which ppl can post videos from playtrhoughs on (name of site escaped me). I didn't like it. But I gues i have to check out a couple of the other games u listed.

selnor, how can u say anything about Valkrie Chronicles or White Knight when u dont own a PS3? Lost Odyssey, I think i never gave that a chance because of the combo of JRPG-scepticism and that it has these mechanized monsters. Plus it dont have a demo.

I've played the Tales demo, Eternal Sonata, SO 4 and Blue Dragon demos. I didnt like the linear gameplay and the manga style. But I was mostly shocked about the arena battles, how bad and un-fun that kind of gameplay is.

I dunno, do all JRPGs have these turn based arena battles?

I did say according to PS3 owners. :)

I agree WRPG's are better right now, but there are some well reviewed JRPG games this gen with more to come. :)
