It just like the analog stick first started on the PC. Later Sony put duel analogs on their controllers in the middle of the PS years. Duel analog controller seems be to a big success in the last years of PS.

they were successfull that time even if they implemented it late, but they have all the third party support that wasn't part of nintendo "dream team" that actually produce many of gems we have now, joystick exist even from years of atari, but a way to use thumb wasn introduced til later, then nintendo implemented it into n64 controlller and many people say sony stole it from nintendo.

which was a old idea to behind with.

That's another thing that is too often misunderstood. First, a joystick is nothing like an analog stick, because the former works only digital and usually in only eight directions. Analog sticks prior to the Nintendo 64 were so poor that gamers sticked with their d-pads.

It's not only about taking existing technologies and applying them in new ways, more importantly it's about implementing them in a way that works (i.e. in games). And the Nintendo 64 marked the first time the analog stick worked and gamers didn't want to play without it anymore. That's why Sony made their analog controller standard (and later on the DualShock, because the Nintendo 64 Rumble Pak was also something that gamers really liked). Force feedback technology also existed on the PC prior to the Nintendo 64, but it was Nintendo who made it a standard, because it worked and the games felt better with it.

N64 analog was crap. I really hated that controller.  The PC  analog joystick  worked well enough  it just got replaced by the mouse.

I like how you guys use examples of Nintendo copying: they made a console too, they are now using an optical medium too, they will copy the others by supporting HD resolutions with their next console. You are grasping for straws.

Nintendo's strength lies in taking existing technology and using it in a way never done before. It works so well for them because they are a hardware and a software company and that's the reason why Microsoft and Sony can't innovate in the same way as Nintendo does. They don't understand gaming like Nintendo. They look at it more from a technology perspective and focus on making existing things better, but they can't establish a new way to play games like Nintendo is able to.

Not that they would even risk it in the first place, their management wouldn't allow it. Only a company like Nintendo could pull off something like the Wii. Microsoft's and Sony's motion control devices will show just how much of an advantage Nintendo has when it comes to innovating in gaming.

microsoft i don't know, but sony was able to do it successful for more than 10 years. but felt when they try to go against microsoft.

but now they are more back into it roots.

What exactly did Sony successful for more than ten years?

being the top selling console for more than 10 years and making the 2 best selling consoles ever?.

also making a console thats wasn't only target for kids and family games or only hardcore games?.

rather the biggest and most impressive line up in the gaming history?

the ps1-ps2 era (L).

i loved snes era too, many JRPG. but not even the snes managed such grow, maybe because how limiting was nintendo to third parties.

Well It cud be Wii's successor...

Okay, but this doesn't have to do with innovation which the post you were replying to was about.

Nintendo never made a console only targetted at kids and families and there was a good reason why third parties were limited to only a few games per year back then. The other points are true.

@Smidlee: You really took that out of context, you should read the sentence right before that one again.

only? never, but nintendo always have aimed for kids,  snes had blood censored. because of this.

when nintendo with GC trashed all that i couldn't been more happy. RE 4 was awesome

and also it have a lot to do because both microsoft and sony are trying.

they are taking something nintendo did and trying to make it better, it require being able to market the system and get support for it.

sony have done it before with ps1-ps2 implementing such technlogies and making it success, their earlier failure was sony placing ps3 at 600$ price point.

it was direct failure from the start, but now they have 299$ system, their old launch price, if the relaunch stays successful they may be able to pull a ps1 and recover lost ground, i don't think winning because it's too late for that now, but taking second place back,a chance.

I'm surprised anyone still takes the wand seriously after seeing it. The design is as bad as the GameCube. It's even purple like the GameCube...only a sissier pinkish hue of purple.*

I'm a big believer in software over technology. Some amazing games could save this thing, but so far I don't see anything in that department either. Are gamers really going to buy this goofy looking controller to play retrofitted versions of Resident Evil 5 and LBP? Both games will be over a year old by the time it comes out!

As for Motion Party - I hope it turns out to be a great game, but the title has "For Casual Retards" written all over it.

* For the record I like wacky designs like the GameCube - but they're not that marketable.

Well, RE5 is inferior to RE4, but that has nothing to do with motion controls or native console.

from the start of this generation, many wii owners had said RE 5 was a downgrade because the lack of motion controls, now sony got it wand controller and finally we see a RE 5 with a good pointer.

it's kinda interesting because many we hoping to see a RE 5 wii edition, now they got it just not from nintendo but sony.

not only that, sony have managed to get many of it games patched, like LBP to use co op and strategic way very similar to mario galaxy but adding more team work and strategy.

and it got a big line up of third party support, and enough non-casual games on the market and soon to be released. (though i think depends on the taste).

sony ps3 would be able to turn itself into that much called wii HD?.

from what i see games like grand slam tennis are making the jump into the wand, and probably many "wii fit like" games do the same, not only the offer the same motion controls 1-1 tracking, but also augmented reality, and head tracking, face and voice recognition in HD graphics.

what will nintendo do for the next console? what kind innovation will they bring, even microsoft natal it's starting to get support, it sound like next gen will be interesting.

many people say nintendo got the casual loyalty, casuals don't have loyalty, they go and get the new things and stuff.

1. PS3 with the wand is not Wii HD. Wii has killer games made for motion control to sell it. I have not seen a killer game to the wand. RE5 alt is not that game.

2. I predict Wii Balance Board (which is an add on) would sell more than the wand.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

wii new motion attachment is also another costly add-on. Sony Wand is not out yet it already have some games that supports it. I wouldn't be surprise to learn there is some kind of party game that comes out for both Sony wand and Mircosoft Natal when they finally are released.
