Nintendo won't repair your Wii for less than $200?

Man, if my Wii broke down, I would lose over $300 worth of downloadable games if I didn't send it in to Nintendo. They'd really have me by the downloadable balls.

...you do realize you can redownload them, right?

Only if he still had the exact same system. Which requires repairing said system.

My Wii broke in Augest and I have been thinking if I want to stop playing video games, get another wii or get a 360. I have made up my mind.

I want to get another Wii for Christmas! Why?

1. The Wii will be only $200 which makes a big difference in my mind.

2. Spore Hero looks very cool.

3. I know I said that NSMBW wouldn't be that good and that I don't want it but now I think it will be one of the best games this gen and so...

4. I can't imagine Pikmin 3 coming out and me not being able to get it.

So I now hope to get a wii before the year ends!!

1. So is a 360 arcade

2. Well I can't say your wrong, but I do disagree with this.

3. Okay NSMB does look cool I'll admit that

4. Could you imagine Modern Warfare 2 coming out and not being able to get it? :)

The one thing you forgot to add though is the Wii is actually reliable unlike the 360 so your probably making a decent choice.

Wow 300$ on DL stuff on the wii? Thats crazy

Why can't you just get it repaired?

Even if it is out of warranty it will probably be at most $80 or something (and it will be as good as a new Wii, as well as Nintendo will transfer your shop account over so you can donload any games you have again (thought you would need to back up any saves that you can)

Hmm, well if your game collection is accurate then you don't have any Wiiware/VC anyway... but it will still be a lot cheaper getting it fixed than buying a new one.

Famousringo, a SD card can save you a lot of money. But I don't now about your saves :/

Nah, that wouldn't work. The games on an SD card are still linked to one Wii and they aren't going to work on another Wii without either being transferred by Nintendo or hacked in some way.

I'm not too worried, since Nintendo's support has such a good reputation. I'm sure they'd repair or replace my Wii at a reasonable price and transfer my Wii shop account to the new hardware. But it is a little sobering to realize just how much money I've sunk into games which rely on Nintendo's good support. And even with Nintendo's reputation, how far into the future will that support extend?

That's the really scary thing about the digital download only future that so many in the industry seem to want.
