I'd bet a permaban that if this was in favor of GT5 and was posted on some random blog from a no-name site, it'll have 100+pages by tomorrow morning and have tons of people backing it up and gloating. Where as Destructoid is well-known and sent checks (like EA sent them a $200 one a week ago), demos, games and interviews by some of the biggest companies; sometimes world exclusive, too. Yet it's discredited to hell, even though it's not bashing any game whatsoever. Ugh. They give Halo: ODST an 8, and you don't hear anything (even from Halo fanboys). I promise anyone here that if they give GT5 an 8 they'll receive INCREDIBLE backlash from fanboys and be known as an anti-Sony site (even though all the authors love their PS3's, some way more than others). Pathetic. |
And we all know why that is..........

I can't and will not say anything bad about GT5. I played the heck out of the demo of FM3 today and....all I can say is WOW what a great game!!
The final verdict doesn't surprise me, but I thought GT5 had the clear edge graphics wise. I suppose that's still subjective though.
But come one. GT5 has a fully animated pit crew and driver and the car models are untouchable. And the trees aren't 2D... they have their own shadows you can see on the cars as they go by >_>

I agree with him to some degree... Primarily, the visuals of GT have always been cutting edge and while the graphics of GT5 are remarkable, certain textures, the trees and signposts in particular were quite 2 dimensional in the demo. This wouldn't be noticeable at high speeds with your focus on the road but when admiring the scenery, the low quality textures of the above mentioned did stick out to me. The controls are good in that they are typical GT, the ultra realism may turn some away but that is what has made the franchise as popular as it is. Really can;t judge the gameplay based on what was there.

How can any Sony fan say Destructoid are bias against Sony. They are one of the most pro Sony sites around.
I said all along the trackside detail in the GT5 city track was poor. But I got hounded by every Sony fan around telling me I was wrong. Even in the pics posted in the Sony forum the new pics from TGS show poor track detail. And not something that is easily upped. I guess thats the result of having 16 cars on track. The cars look great as does the lighting, but the environment loses the reality illusion. I believe thats why GT has overbloomed lighting. It makes light really light and dark really dark. Textures are harder to see when the lighting is like this.
I guess it's worse when your going slow like the article said.
Forza 3 to out review GT5? I said yes all along. But I'm sure I'll have another fanboy answer.
All I ever did was state what I saw. Yes I am pro 360, but it was pretty apparent which had the better overall graphics.

Take a look. Here is a Polyphony released photomode shot. Even here the scenery flaws are noticeable. Notice to the left of the awesome car model the signs completely floating into the trees? The 2d tree textures he refers to are the bracnches. They are bunches of branches but clearly are a 2d bunch of branches, rather than a 3d branch, bracnhing at a different angle to tohers. You wouldn't notice it at 150mph, but at 60 mph on a corner it is noticeable. Even in the videos.
