This is FFIV.

@Tehsage

When you get to the title screen it will still say FF2, so calling it FFIV would only confuse people who buy it. Just like the US SNES release of FFVI will say FF3.

In fairness, Nintendo has changed menu graphics before (see: Sin and Punishment in English) on the Virtual Console. They could do it again, if they wanted.

Though at the moment I agree, this sounds like FFIV.

Ah, didn't know that.

S-E would have to go in and change the title screen though wouldn't they?

You are very probably right, which is why I doubt they'll do it. I'm just saying it's possible.

Final Fantasy II on the virtual console for the North American market is what is today known as FF4. The original FF2, FF3, and FF5 games weren't released here so Japan's FF4 became our Final Fantasy II and Japan's FF6 became our FInal Fantasy III. That is how they will appear on the Virtual console.

Source?

I don't believe Square Enix is going to stick with their old messed up numbering of the US final fantasies.

When they released FF4 on DS and GBA, it was called FF4. Not FF2.

I believe that this FF2 is the legit FF2.

The ESRB rating describes Final Fantasy 4, not Final Fantasy 2. Also, Virtual Console games are exact ports. Square also announced that FF1 and FF4 were coming to North America via Virtual console.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I am 99% sure it is FFIV.

Jump is Kain's attack obviously and Kick is Yang's.

NES title did not have either of these two if I am not mistaken.

The ESRB rating references crystals, FF4 is a story about crystals, FF2 is not. It also mentions a female character in a Bikini, a clear reference to Barbarica in FF4 (called Valvalvis in the original Final Fantasy II released here in North America), there are no characters or enemies like this in FF2j.

Well that's interesting. I can't remember if Valvalis was shown in her bikini in the FFIV US sprite.

Anyone happen to know?
