Well not necessarily boxing, any 4 player game in which a person needs two wands.

Also LAN gaming is still preferred by most over Internet gaming, Sony would be unwise to ignore that

i really don't think that will be an issue

no console can challenge the console king of party games.  if people want to play party games, they will go to the other console

that's not saying there will be no party games released on PS3 that utilize motion control

i believe those games will be designed in the way that you only need the wands (1 wand per person) to play them.

So Sony is not going for mass market appeal?  If so then they are not going to have much market penetration of the wand

let me put it this way...  it's not the "nunchuk" that makes the Wii massively popular.  it's the Wiimote and Wii balance board.

everyone seems to agree motion control is the best control scheme for shooting game.

i think that's the market Sony is going after, before Nintendo release the HD version of Wii.

in my opinion, it's quite smart of Sony only replacing the right analog stick with the wand so it's easier for the developers and the gamers can choose either way to play shooting games.

No its the software and this limits the appeal, most people are going to find the Dualshock plus wand uncomfortable, especially for games where they have to move around,  having dual wands seems like an excessive expense for the game that would benefit from it, and the fact that the amount of LAN gaming will be limited by the technology will not benefit Sony, so far this is not sounding like a success.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

before i leave this thread, i just need to ask: why are you so negative on something you haven't even tried yet?

the motion control is just an option.  if gamers found that so uncomfortable to use, they would pick up their DS3 and play games in the old fashion way.

same thing goes with the Wii, if people hated playing MH3 with Wiimote+Nunchuk, they would play it with the Classic Controller Pro.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

I'm just pointing out the flaws in Sony's product, yes people can play games in the old fashioned way, and they probably will on the PS3, hence why the Sony wand, unlike the Wiimote, will likely not be a success

You're not doing a great job at that, sincerely.

Putting an analog control on the wand so that you aim by pointing the wand at the same time as you move by using the analog on it? Or you use the analog while indipendently rotating the wand in space to control some other axis?

Missing this is a flaw? Have you really thought this through? Because that sounds extremely hard and requires a lot more coordination, all in one hand.

I think that the easiest solution will be some games requiring one wand only, other requiring two wands or one wand plus a dualshock. The left side of the dualshock can be substituted by a second wand, which in many games will double up as a second controller. Sony could create a "monoshock", ie a halved dualshock for your your left hand, with an analog stick+buttons+accelerometers+rumble... but frankly would that be worth buying instead of a second wand?

If I buy the eye and two wands - and I already own a dualshock that came with the console - I get the options:

- 2 players, each with one wand, in games that need a wand

- 2 wands in games that need double motion control (boxing, shield and sword...)

- wand + dualshock or 2 wands in RE5-like games or FPSs

- dualshock for classic controls

- camera-controlled games

Just for a comparison with the status-quo: the equivalent on the Wii would amount to 2 Wiimotes, 1 nunchuck, 1 classic controller or wavebird, 2 Motion Control+ add-ons. That's two extra pieces of hardware lying around rather than the PS case (you buy 4: an extra Wiimote, the classic controller, the motion+ addons), with extra cables/plugging/toggling, less buttons, no webcam/augmented reality games.

Clearly you didn't read what I posted, I never said to put the analogue stick on the wand, that is your first mistake, I did say that using a dualshock as the analogue controller is a mistake as its more bulky and less comforatbale when compared to the nunchuk.  I also said that if using the two wands means its limited to one player games or online games, then its another flaw.  Unlike the Wiimote, in which using a wand plus a nunchuk allows for multiple player games, with people in the same room, in addition is much more comfortable than the Dualshock plus wand method.

Your very first post in this thread, referring to the wand as depicted in the OP:

"Is there an analogue stick, how do you move?"

And then we have:

"If using two wands means its limtied to one player games or online games, then its another flaw"

In which you're speculating on alleged limitations of which we know nothing, not of flaws of the known design of the product. For what we know we could have 4 players, each with two wands. Which is a solution both more immediate/comfortable than Wiimote/nunchuck/WM+ and allowing a much greater amount of control options.

So maybe we should wait and see how they tackle the whole control issue instead of spitting out words such as "flaw" and "fail" on something we basically don't know much about? Just suggesting...

Yes, I asked about the analogue stick as no nunchuk like device was shown in the pics I had seen, and another person in this thread stated that the PS eye would be unable to do two player games, hence why I said that if its limited to that its a flaw.  Having a four player game with two wands each is 8 wands, at 40-50 dollars a wand you're looking at $320-400 just on wands, a massive expenditure, more than the cost of the system itself, which is still pretty high to begin with.

I predict many dualshock's being "confused" with the wand and being thrown at TV's, etc.

Holding both controllers is just lame.

Thus, you're not pointing out the flaws in the product. You're speculating and, might I say, jumping on every chance to state -I quote you- "flop confirmed", not sure if about the new version of RE or the wand controllers themselves.

But discussing your attitude is not interesting, that's why my post was about what you get for your bucks when you buy -say- two wands.  Let me turn to your example instead: the corner case of a game supporting 4 players with dual motion control each. If such a game will come up yes, it will be expensive to buy all those controllers. Just as it's expensive buying multiple guitars or other instruments for music games, and just as it would be expensive to buy the 4x wiimotes/nunchucks/wm+ if the very same game was on the Wii.

The fact that controllers and accessories might end up costing you a lot of money is not new, is not exclusive to these controllers and is hardly relevant for your typical setup: 1 or 2 wands, up to 4 for your average party game or dual motion controlled 2-players local mp.
