let me put it this way...  it's not the "nunchuk" that makes the Wii massively popular.  it's the Wiimote and Wii balance board.

everyone seems to agree motion control is the best control scheme for shooting game.

i think that's the market Sony is going after, before Nintendo release the HD version of Wii.

in my opinion, it's quite smart of Sony only replacing the right analog stick with the wand so it's easier for the developers and the gamers can choose either way to play shooting games.

No its the software and this limits the appeal, most people are going to find the Dualshock plus wand uncomfortable, especially for games where they have to move around,  having dual wands seems like an excessive expense for the game that would benefit from it, and the fact that the amount of LAN gaming will be limited by the technology will not benefit Sony, so far this is not sounding like a success.

before i leave this thread, i just need to ask: why are you so negative on something you haven't even tried yet?

the motion control is just an option.  if gamers found that so uncomfortable to use, they would pick up their DS3 and play games in the old fashion way.

same thing goes with the Wii, if people hated playing MH3 with Wiimote+Nunchuk, they would play it with the Classic Controller Pro.
