This is why I hate religion.

Those demented extremists need to be beaten senseless. How dare your hair is brown! We should beat the shit out of you until it is blonde! That is how ridiculous it is.

I can't even eloquently convey the disgust I'm feeling.

This is called stereotyping. My family is all Christian but we're not doing exorcisms and shit. Nor have I seen it done in real. I only see these batshit insane things on the Internet.

You obviously do not know what EXTREMIST means.

No, I do. You're just saying you hate religions because of extremists when most religions don't do things like that. It's only a few crazy people that do.

My reason for hating religion is that they allow this, they don't see any problem whatsoever with bigotry. Do you think that the Christian church has a problem with this? All religions have fucking nutty standards and ideas which is why I don't like any of them. Except maybe Buddhism for liking video games.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I'm not sure about the Jews. I really don't know their religion or much about their beliefs. Except not liking pork. Pork is yummy.

Surely this has to be fake, right... Right?

Mind you, this is probably just that 1% that take things too far, I bet they believe that gays are an abomination and that the earth is 6000 years old too. Luckily the other 99% are much more normal.

I was basing it off of an article I read about the specific passage.

Well at least you're not being hypocritical with your idea on the matter of divorce and homosexuality. I do respect that. But I do strongly feel that homosexuality is not just a disease that someone can try to cure. It might work to some degree but at the same time, the teenage years are some of the most confusing and rough times on homosexual males. That's one of the reasons suicide rate and drug usage are high with homosexual males that are teenagers. He was probably asking for advice from somebody from the church, because he felt that he could trust them and they talked him into this situation. I'm not going to lie, I would have probably done it too when I was at that stage of my life because I felt like such an outcast and practically hated myself because I didn't have the confidence to let people know who I am. I may not know this guy in the video, but I know what he must have been feeling before to put himself into this situation. I'm not sure if I'd go as far as to say that he was pushed in the direction, but I do think that sitting down with a counselor could have been just as effective and wouldn't leave him vomiting and screaming. I am still saying that I view the exorcism as wrong but the church could have handled the situation a little better. Especially by not letting somebody video tape something like that...

I haven't argued or condoned the idea that homosexuality is a 'disease'. Like many other sinful practices, I believe it's just that - a sinful practice. The Bible teaches us that we're born sinful, not sinless, so it is very obvious that we are going to develop with lifestyles and practices that may not be inline with what the Bible teaches.

And it's possible that he talked to a councelor at church and was reccomended into this procedure. I am not condoning nor condemning the practice of exorcism. I know people that have partaken in it and seen very positive effects in the process. Do I believe homosexuality is generated by some sort of demonic presence in the life of someone? No. I believe it's the result of the temptation of lust that drags people into doing things that are contrary to scripture. If you research the lifesytle of homosexuality, you find that it's one based primarily on lust. The average homosexual male has ~50 partners per year which is many times the average of a heterosexual - so such a situation is solidly based, I believe, on lust. Everyone goes through those problems - homo or hetero alike. It may manifest itself differently, but both are wrong. If you'll notice trend graphs concerning divorce and homosexuality, we usually seem them correlating well together - higher divorce = higher homosexuality. So I would argue that the root of the problem is that we (and I'm society in general) has a more lassiez-faire attitude toward lust and sexual praxis than we did, which is correlating with a lack of regard for what the Bible deems proper sexual practice.

And I do believe a councelor may have been better for the situation. However, I, nor anyone here, understands the merits of the situation. What if the exorcism did indeed change the minor's desires? Could the church of handled the situation better? Heck yeah! Why is there a YouTube video in the first place!?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Soriku - That may be the case.

Better yet, the Bible specifically mentions the notion of people being born without the desire for women:

Matthew 19:12
For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.

I think the key here is the thought of being born a eunuch (that is, sexually neutral) - Jesus even spoke of it. Again, if someone is born this way and has no desires, I'd argue it'd be pretty easy for someone to correlate those feelings with homosexuality. After all, we live in a society that panders sex at an early age.

I don't think a lack of testosterone = being attracted to men. That just means you may not be attracted to women. There's a distinction there because you may just not be attracted to anyone at all.

What does Jindal have to do with this?

Bobby Jindal has...eh..."performed" exorcisms.

http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2008/06/11/jindals_exorcism/

This is Bobby Jindal recounting his experience of he and his friends "exorcising" a demon.

Apparently a woman at his college wanted to debate about whether or not christianity was true. They respond by holding her down, shoving a bible in her face and screaming at her. Apparently you don't need to volunteer for exorcism, you just have to be out numbered by wack jobs that believe in it. And think you're in need of one.

Strangely, I found myself repeating the Hail Mary until it became a chant. Being a recent convert to Catholicism, I had yet to accept the Catholic doctrines concerning Mary and considered any form of Marian devotion to be idolatry. Though I had never before prayed a Hail Mary in my life, I suddenly found myself incapable of any other form of prayer. Somehow, Mary's intercessions allowed me to find peace during that long night; I knew that I had survived the worst and that I would exit with my faith intact. It terrified me to recall how close I came to turning away from Christ out of fear.

The crucifix had a calming effect on Susan, and her sister was soon brave enough to bring a Bible to her face. At first, Susan responded to biblical passages with curses and profanities. Mixed in with her vile attacks were short and desperate pleas for help. In the same breath that she attacked Christ, the Bible's authenticity, and everyone assembled in prayer, Susan would suddenly urge us to rescue her. It appeared as if we were observing a tremendous battle between the Susan we knew and loved and some strange evil force. But the momentum had shifted and we now sensed that victory was at hand.

While Alice and Louise held Susan, her sister continued holding the Bible to her face. Almost taunting the evil spirit that had almost beaten us minutes before, the students dared Susan to read biblical passages. She choked on certain passages and could not finish the sentence "Jesus is Lord." Over and over, she repeated "Jesus is L..L..LL," often ending in profanities. In between her futile attempts, Susan pleaded with us to continue trying and often smiled between the grimaces that accompanied her readings of Scripture. Just as suddenly as she went into the trance, Susan suddenly reappeared and claimed "Jesus is Lord."

With an almost comical smile, Susan then looked up as if awakening from a deep sleep and asked, "Has something happened?" She did not remember any of the past few hours and was startled to find her friends breaking out in cheers and laughter, overwhelmed by sudden joy and relief.

You might not be attracted at all, but I don't think that even happens that often. So most people's choices are going for the ones they find most attractive. In some cases, guys might just be attracted to other guys while most are attracted to the opposite sex.

I don't approve of homosexuality, but what'cha gonna do?

people are attracted by outward appearance

gays are gay because they love themselves and see themselves back in the other?

Wow. 'Gay Demons'. Who'd have thought it. Does that mean there are 'Gay Angels'? I'm guessing they'd say no.

There are a lot of misconceptions in this thread, and I'll address this one. It's not a demon or angel is gay, but it's in reference to a sin that has taken place in someone's lifestyle. I've heard of demons of Alcohol abuse, cursing, etc. They're talking about the sexuality of a spiritual entity.
