I do respect that. But I do strongly feel that homosexuality is not just a disease that someone can try to cure. It might work to some degree but at the same time, the teenage years are some of the most confusing and rough times on homosexual males. That's one of the reasons suicide rate and drug usage are high with homosexual males that are teenagers. He was probably asking for advice from somebody from the church, because he felt that he could trust them and they talked him into this situation. I'm not going to lie, I would have probably done it too when I was at that stage of my life because I felt like such an outcast and practically hated myself because I didn't have the confidence to let people know who I am. I may not know this guy in the video, but I know what he must have been feeling before to put himself into this situation. I'm not sure if I'd go as far as to say that he was pushed in the direction, but I do think that sitting down with a counselor could have been just as effective and wouldn't leave him vomiting and screaming. I am still saying that I view the exorcism as wrong but the church could have handled the situation a little better. Especially by not letting somebody video tape something like that... |
I haven't argued or condoned the idea that homosexuality is a 'disease'. Like many other sinful practices, I believe it's just that - a sinful practice. The Bible teaches us that we're born sinful, not sinless, so it is very obvious that we are going to develop with lifestyles and practices that may not be inline with what the Bible teaches.
And it's possible that he talked to a councelor at church and was reccomended into this procedure. I am not condoning nor condemning the practice of exorcism. I know people that have partaken in it and seen very positive effects in the process. Do I believe homosexuality is generated by some sort of demonic presence in the life of someone? No. I believe it's the result of the temptation of lust that drags people into doing things that are contrary to scripture. If you research the lifesytle of homosexuality, you find that it's one based primarily on lust. The average homosexual male has ~50 partners per year which is many times the average of a heterosexual - so such a situation is solidly based, I believe, on lust. Everyone goes through those problems - homo or hetero alike. It may manifest itself differently, but both are wrong. If you'll notice trend graphs concerning divorce and homosexuality, we usually seem them correlating well together - higher divorce = higher homosexuality. So I would argue that the root of the problem is that we (and I'm society in general) has a more lassiez-faire attitude toward lust and sexual praxis than we did, which is correlating with a lack of regard for what the Bible deems proper sexual practice.
And I do believe a councelor may have been better for the situation. However, I, nor anyone here, understands the merits of the situation. What if the exorcism did indeed change the minor's desires? Could the church of handled the situation better? Heck yeah! Why is there a YouTube video in the first place!?
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
