I've got a PS3, and I've played online a few times but the basic problem is one that maybe can't be fixed. I'm 28 and with a job and a baby only manage to find 2-3 hours a month to play. I've played about 10 online matches of the new UFC game, and the best result so far is surviving to 3:43 of round one, and landing about 6 shots.

Unfortunately, I'm also good enough at the game that playing multiplayer at home with friends, I can way too easily beat them without trying. Against friends, I intentionally let people back up from the ground, and don't counter every transition if I'm down etc. but I really have to try to lose for it to ever happen.

The situation generally seems very much the same across all the games for the PS3. Playing online, I get my ass kicked to the point where it's just not fun. Against friends, I can kick their asses to the point where it's just not fun.

By comparison, my brother brought round his Wii a couple of weeks back. I actually won one of the games of bowling, and tennis wasn't completely one sided either. I've never enjoyed playing any game on the PS3 as much - unfortunately, it was just the wrong choice for someone in my position. I'm now getting a Wii and I suspect it will get used a lot more than the PS3.

This is why I only play certain games online. Mario Kart Wii makes it possible for me to win against people who are better than you. You won't win every time, but you at least stand a chance. Killzone 2 also worked out for me considering it is objective based rather than kill count based. I don't have to run into the thickest part of the fight to get points. Burnout Paradise also works really well online since if you host you can choose events where you work together rather than compete.

However, I don't really play Street Fighter II, or Mario Strikers Charged online since everyone is so much better than me and I don't even stand a chance.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I've mainly been playing some GTA4 and Killzone 2 online but not too much.

However that will change when Uncharted 2 releases.

I play online a reasonable amount, but only on the PS3 and PC. I haven't paid for Live for several years now, it just seemed like a really stupid expense.

I tend to prefer the PS3's online to the PC's online, mainly because it has better matchmaking in most games then the god awful Gamespy system or even worse the company owned chatroom system (like Demigod). I especially love that it's free, it has usernames so you can track people and it has almost all the best games. It is very similar to the 360 in almost every respect with regards to online play, except, of course, the cost. Also, there seem to be less idiots on the PS3 then the 360 (its an older audience, on average, and less prone to the infamous "gamerboy rage" that infects Halo 3 in particular).

I also, of course, like spending the 50 bucks on another game instead of a fee to play online for a year. I got a 360 originally at launch so if I had let MS bill me yearly like they want to I would have paid more in fees for online play then a new 360 costs today, how messed up is that? That isn't even including having to pay 99 bucks out of the gate to get a wireless adapter, which is the most standard of standard features for an online console (even the Wii has it standard from release).

I own a PS3 and a 360 and very rarely play online with them.
I prefer playing online in Counter Strike on PC.

I dont play online online often but I do from time to tim, notably AC:CF and SSBB

Online: PC (TF2, World of Warcraft)
Offline: Wii

thats what it's like for me. i don't need better or more wii online, too. my online activities on the wii are shop channel, weather channel or internet channel related.

while i do play online.
it never made me love gaming as much as single player (and to be more precise RPGs) did.
i just play online when i feel that i need the break.
my "Serious" gaming is offline single player

I'm online pretty much every day.

OK,I guess there are quite a few peeps like me.I've only gone online with my wii once cuz I haven't yet saved up for a wireless router. But I know dat most of my online will be wii shop channel and downloading games. But actual online game matches will be no fun to me if I'm not playing with my REAL life friends.I've never cared about the wii's terrible online bcuz I don't ever play online but I'm always seeing the comments in forums & reviews.I guess there are a few of you that love online but I guess I got the answer I was looking for.
