Forums - Sony - PS3 40Gb, On your list?

It's been said somewhere that the recent surge in PS3 sales was actually over 80% 60 GB units, which suggests people are buying PS3s now before they're out of BC-capable SKU's.

I'd like some solid numbers somewhere...but it is interesting.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Well, the loss of backwards compatibility is tragic, but considering I have the amazing ability of just plugging in my Playstation 2, I think I'll opt for the purchase.

uh oh, the secret is out. i mean they both have the same connector, it's a matter of switching one cord.

despite owning a 60gig ps3, i still use my ps2 all the time. i have some hard to find game backups/imports that i play on my chipped ps2. my ps2 is not going anywhere.

i understand people here value BC highly, but some of are just nitpicking the 40gb to death. I'm sure Sony will have a ps3 model with BC when you are ready to buy one, whenever that is. However, from reading sony threads on here, i get the notion that some of you are being disingenuous with your interest in buying a ps3 at any specified price/feature level.

I think Sony has the right idea with this SKU. reduce the price while still having a clear value differentiation between themselves and what Microsoft is offering. With that said, I'd be suprised with anything other than them placing 3rd this holiday. I think the PS2 will have yet another solid christmas, though.

Well said

I'll take the case!!!

No way I'd buy it. Feels like a rushed and desperate price cut, and I don't buy into it. If I were to ever get it, I mean, if I were ever motivated even a bit to get it, I'll get a BC one.

Yeah, I finally have a sig.

Nope i'll wait for the 80 gig to drop down. That or the 160 gig if that replaces it. I've got like no trust in my PS2 standing the test of time, because i've already had two break on me. The PS2 isn't something i want to play for the next coupe of years, it like the rest of my systems I want to play until I stop playing videogames.

I mean the PS2's breakdown rate seems only second to the 360.

I was thinking of buying one to replace my PS2. Oh wait...

@fkusumot

Sarcasm does not suit you.

40gig no, but if my backordered 60gig for $399 ships, I'll sell my 80gig to a friend :) Both of us want BC.

Currently loving my Wii x2, Xbox 360 Pro & Xbox 360 Arcade, and Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Limited "Cloud Black" 160GB PS3

GAMEFLY & GOOZEX FTW

Look, here's the thing about the 40 gig...

Most of the people who whine about it probably want a PS3, but would likely have not bought it for quite a while. If you truly want a PS3, and you truly want to play the games on it, and you have the initiative, something as menial as loss of PS2 backwards compatibility will not deter you.

No. BC is a big issue for me. I have replaced 2 PS2s. What used to be one of the biggest features of the PS3 to me was it's reliability. The PS2 is hardly a well built machine, but the PS3 is very solid. I don't want to have to keep buying PS2s forever.

I also live in a tiny studio apartment. The reason I only have my Wii and PS2 with me in the first place is it's literally all that fits. The next console I buy is going to have to push out the PS2, and unless that console has either A) The ability to play my PS2 games or B) More good games (impossible) my PS2 isn't going anywhere.

Plus, as Outlawauron said, next Xmas is really a much better time to buy a PS3. They will hopefully have another pricecut and most of the good games will be out. I have a friend who I can leach PS3 playtime off of until then. From now to the end of the year the only games I would buy are Warhawk, Folklore, and Ratchet anyway, and 3 games just isn't enough.
