Well, the first three answers are easy: GOW will get higher reviews and hype (just because usually ps3 games have more hype than Wii games), and also more preorders (ps3 games listed in top 40 american preorders are something like 10-20 times more than Wii games...).
But for sales first week/LTD is an hard question: if Wii reaches 100 millions before Pikmin 3 (=no before holiday 2010) then it has a great shot to outsell both the previous Pikmin combined (about 3 million LTD) if Ninty is able to do the same thing they did with mario Kart: casualizing it without screwing it. But GoW has a bigger fanbase, and is a more known franchise, so it will probaby be the best entry in the franchise...and as long as PS3 games usually don't have legs, i would say that a lot of it's sales will come from the first week, so Pikmin has a shot just to the LTD question IMO.

PS3 games not a having any legs is a crock of BS. (see little big planet, uncharted 1, Resistance (both), VC, Assasins Creed, GTA 4, GT prologue, and etc )

I honestly do not see the wii selling 50 million units in one year  as you proposed, so this further negates the fact that pikman (a very unknown IP) can beat  God of war 3 game (a fantastically well recieved and  high selling IP).

Ps3 games GENERALLY have low legs, it's obvius that there are exceptions, like the ones of Wii having legs: generally Ps3's legs

I said 100 millins not before holiday 2010, if Wii reached over 60 millions this holiday there are 40 millions, and 25 can be sold...it was a statemente to say just "not before 2011", it changes little if there are 90 or 100 millions Wii's.

Pikmin is not unknow, was unknow because of GC but it's one of the IPs that can be casualized the most (for example SMBB or Metroid couldn't) with a good marketing and developement.

I don't see how the Wii can go from selling 15 million in a year to selling 25 million. It might sell another 15 million next year, to make it 75 million. That doesn't really make a difference. You mention Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Both were huge franchises. All Mario Karts have sold above 5 million, and two of them were already 10 million sellers, or close (15 million on DS, 9.87 million on N64).

SSB on N64 sold over 5 million, and it actually sold more on GC. The franchise increased in size.

Furthermore, they were pretty easy to casualise. They were already games that appealed to many people. It would be very easy to get a new gamer to see a kart racing game or a colourful fighting game, and think "Wow, this looks good". It would be considerably more difficult to do the same for a...how do you describe Pikmin? Wikipedia says RTS. How would you sell it to somebody who has never owned a console before, or even somebody who owned a PS2, but was one of the more "casual" gamers that made up the majority of its install base?

Mario Kart- Well, you play as Mario and other Nintendo characters, and you drive around a circuit, throwing banana peels, picking up speed boosts, and things like that.

Super Smash Bros- You play as Mario and other Nintendo characters (hmmm), and you fight each other, using pick-ups and platforms to your advantage.

Pikmin- ...

First of all Wii will not sell 15 m in FY 2009, with the price cut and the lack of supply constraints it will likely end over 20m...but that's not important, before 2011 end, if the Wii's successor isn't launched yet, Wii will have sold around or more 100m (95-110m).

What i wanted to say about casualizing is that in the ads Mario Kart seems a casual friend, and also the game play is more casual than in the past. I was not speaking of sales, i was speaking of audience: if a 1st party Nintendo game fails to reach the casual market, it will not sell as well as i could; Pikmin seems nearer the casual audience than other first party games, but it also lacks a fanbase. I'm not saying it will sell better on Wii because there are more Wii owners, just that with a good marketing they can turn it becoming a well known IP just like what they've done with Mario Kart some years ago, even if that franchise is 4-5 times bigger than the Pikmin one now.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

If the hardcore gamecube fans don't even accept pikmin (as much as say melee or kart) than why would causal players? Like Kantor said, Pikmin is .... Hard to explain and market.

I blame Wii Fit...+!!!

We will see, just that...i hope Pikmin turns out being one of the Wii's surprises!

GOW is one of the biggest ps3 games, will not be a surprise -__-

Pikmin as you all guys said it's a not so well known IP...

I will rephrase:

We will see, just that...i hope BOTH will sell well.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Can i make an epic prediction and say...

GoW: Collection > Pikmin 3 for all of them?

I think that everybody is crazy if they think that Pikmin has a zero% chance of out selling GOW3! I mean its not the PS2. If you think about it every game that did well on the PS2 its sequel sold way less than its previous game while all of the wii sequels are outselling thire GC games. I predict:

GOW3 = 2.7Million
Pikmin3 = 6.3Million

Now I know this is a joke thread. Nice going, you had me fooled for a while, but you overdid it there.

Agreed.

With the new ps3 advertising, price cut, holidays session, the ps 3 will have 30 millions + units sold(When GoW 3 releases),such popularity for the god of war franchise,GoW3 will sale pretty much like MGS 4,if not even more, and even if it doesnt,it wont loose to Pikmin3...or w/e..

I like how everybody here hates Pikmin and takes it as a joke. Let me put it this way...

In my opinion God of war is in the same boat as Pikmin. How??

1.Both made its debut last gen.
2.Both had a sequel last gen.
3.Both will have another sequel this gen.
4.Both had high reviews but had lower sales then other 1st party franchises.

As a matter of fact Pikmin had better sales then God of war for the system it was on. To explain,

God of war was the 48th best selling game on the PS2 while God of war 2 was the 80th best selling game on the PS2.

Pikmin was the 17th best selling game on the cube while Pikmin2 was #41 for best selling on the cube.

As you can see Pikmin sold better for the system it was on. Now everybody says GOW3 will beat Pikmin3 easy. Well now Sony and Nintendo are switched. This means if they sold the same amout as they previously did for the system it was on Pikmin3 will outsell God of war 3 in the same way god of war outsold Pikmin last gen.
