Forums - Nintendo - Eurogamer Reviews Scribblenauts - 7/10

"Scribblenauts is unquestionably a thing of wonder. But it's also a clumsily made game, with clumsy text (every level ends with the words "MERIT GET!", and then there's the gibberish sometimes contained in the clues), clumsy level design, and beyond clumsy controls. Oh, and an agonising tutorial that seems intent on denying anything the game is about.

I find it hard to believe anyone could play for more than six or seven levels before just typing in random things to see if they're there and whether they can beat Cthulhu in a fight. But then, doing that is utterly brilliant. It's like trying to wash the car and ending up having a water fight. The water fight is tons more fun than the car washing, but then you're wet and tired and it's time for tea."

OMG!!! Clumsy controls? What about innovation and freshness? Reviewing such a game from a purely technical aspect is pure fail...

Pitting a vampire versus a werewolf is just the sort of experiment Scribblenauts invites you to try. Not because the game demands it but because if you're given a box of magic crayons and a big blank sheet of paper, you won't be able to resist. So create a vampire and werewolf, drop them into the level, and oh... The vampire exposed to the daylight immediately turns to a pile of dust on the ground. The werewolf, meanwhile, transforms into a regular guy. Because it's daytime.

I'm not sure if he's upset or happy about this.

Whatever the case, I'm still arriving at Toys R' Us bright and early tomorrow morning and getting my copy.

You can kill vampires? I would do that ALL DAY LONG.

Tee Hee. Eurogamer makes me lol. Also weep for humanity... But mostly lol.

Ending every level with merit get' is much better than being boring and ending it with 'congratulations' or some shit.

Also, I had to laugh especially at

"and beyond clumsy controls. Oh, and an agonising tutorial that seems intent on denying anything the game is about."

In the first sentence he shows that he reviewed this as an action adventure, and then in the second criticises the game developers themselves for believing it to be a puzzle game. GENIUS!!

That's probably what I'd give it.
Most of the challenges are weak. Like "give this guy something that can help him see" or "give the farmer three farm animals" or "give the teacher something she'd use".

Once you get over the novelty typing things just becomes a chore. And the controls are annoying.

The review sounds like it should get a 4/10.

I agree with the controls to an extent. Having to jump off the top of a ladder to a ledge instead of simply stepping onto the ledge being one of many problems.

That being said, I've been addicted to the game for three days. I'd give it no less than a 9. The controls may have some issues, but everything else more than makes up for it.

I believe that information is incorrect, actually.  I've only messed around with vampires in the free mode, and they've never turned to dust.  As far as I'm aware, it's always daylight in the free mode (and elsewhere in the game, from what I've seen).

My issue with vampires is that they're way overpowered. They're practically unbeatable unless you summon a Hydra or something.  Somehow vampries can bite god and turn him into a vampire.  I had three gods on sakteboards with shotguns going up against one vampire, and the vampire won!
