To some no-lifer who sits around playing video games all day it may not seem much but for someone who has a busy life and might only play online an hour a week that is a lot of cost for so little.

It's $4 a month at the most, and like $2.50 a month if you just buy a game card on sale. As long as that 'busy life' includes... you know... a job, it's virtually no cost. I barely have time to play online at all, but the cost of xbox live is entirely unnoticable to me. I can go a month or two without having time to play an online game, but it's there when I feel like firing up Halo for a few rounds, or when I have time to watch a netflix movie, and just for that, it's worth it.

This is how Live should be:

Silver members Free                                  Gold Members paid subscribers

Online Mutiplayer                                         Online multiplayer

         .........                                                      Chat

         .........                                                   Cross Chat

         .........                                                   Text msg

         .........                                                   party  invite

         .........                                                    Facebook

         .........                                                    tweeter

         .........                                                     Last Fm

         .........                                                      Netflix

All I say is leave online mp for free for Silver members , And if you want to enjoy the whole experience you pay the fee..

If the extra features enhances the experience to play online for $50 a year, great for those who enjoy it. But for those looking just to pick up and play online without any of those features should be free for them, .

The best thing is to have options and there's non, you have no choise but to pay to play online on the Xbox.

A good option would be play online free without the added features that gold offers or pay a fee if you want to play online and enjoy the whole experience that gold offers..

Playing multiplayer online should not be a priviledge, it should be a standard feature for starters (Silver) but if you want the added luxury you have to upgrade to gold..

I have no complaints with Live at all its great but at least thats how it should've been.

I like this!!  Most of the time I go online to just play games that have multiplayer, like Call of Duty (3, MW, and WaW), Halo 3, and etc.

I rarely use the other features that come with the Gold membership, so those aren't of any use to me and yet I have to pay for 'em.

I guess I can relate that to all of those annoying cable channels that you have to pay for even though you don't EVER

watch them.  Of course, you can look at it as, those features are there just in case you ever want to use them.  Hmmm....anyways.

In this Internet game, the "new game"=XBL price argument is plain silly...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Microsoft points

My pet peeve.  This was an arbitrary pricing system that was created with nothing more then the intent of holding onto your cash, interest free.  If you are purchasing games, add ons, Rock Band tracks you are going to run into odd amounts of Microsoft Points left over.  These points will end up just sitting there, because it is almost impossible to buy the right merchandise to get your account to zero dollars.  At the end of this console generation I am sure plenty of people will have some small balance of points.  Microsoft will have effectively stolen money from everyone.  Congratulations on getting robbed.

I agree with this.

Technically the same issue happens on Wii though there are fewer odd amounts thankfully.

Another "paying for Live sucks" topic. I understand this a post from a linked article, but we have seen hundreds of these already. People have been writing and complaining about paying for Live since it's inception, but guess what......Millions are still doing it and it is only getting more popular.

Personally, I have no issues for paying for Live, and never will. I love what it offers. I enjoy what PSN offers me on my PS3 for free......but it will never be the same quality as what Live offers me (IMO).....but hey, that's why I pay for it.

That's all.

And you CAN look the internet and search for better prices.

Not over priced at all if u have a decent job this is short change!

Get a job and do better for urself!

I think this would be a great idea as well.

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.
