It seems the Wii is dropping pretty fast in Japan.

Who thinks the PS3 will pass the Wii (weekly sales/Japan-only, of course) by the end of October? Remember the price drop + Eye of Judgement/Ratchet should help sell more consoles.

And if it does get to #1. Do you think it can stay ahead of the Wii through the remaining of 2007?

You just made this up. I love when people link something and say: "See?" when that link actually shows that they're wrong.

PS3 sales went up 3,000 units last week, to 13,000 -- but sales of the system had been falling for 7 weeks consecutively before that. That is, according to the link you just provided me. A 3,000 unit climb for one single week when the PS3 is already behind by over 2.3 million units in Japan is a pretty desperate claim for a growing trend.


You're right. I overlooked the chart data (I'm at work :( ).

I will just wait 2 weeks to see if the PS3 comes up ahead or not. Predictions for this week put PS3 at about the same 12-14k and another drop for Wii (from 23k to about 20k).

 

media create shows a drop for PS3 13.1k to 10.8k for last week (which vgchartz hasn't updated yet).  Wii also dropped, so did 360, ps2, and PSP.  There's no real trend here yet, numbers are fluctuating up and down, we have to wait and see.

Like i said, there's a chance that a few weeks out of the rest of the year the SP3 will pop it's head up but otherwise not this year.

PS3 is getting a price cut from 17 October. I'm waiting myself to see how much it will cost me, but I don't think it will drop that fast, perhaps a 50 Euro only, which is about 70USD. I dunno I don't think the PS3 will get much of a boost, considering the recent sales, but I could be wrong.

If it had a decent game coming out yahh it would beat it but no such luck, for the price its at the wii is really struggling. Ps3 will out sale the wii in 08, MGS4 or White Night bundle.

Mario comes on November 1st, it's preordered by 700,000 people so it would be huge. PS3 has a chance in this week (which ends on 21th) and the next one (ends on 28th). This week PS3 has a price cut of about ten percent of current price (5000 yens), I think it won't be enough to outsell Wii but it will be pretty close.

In the next week Imabikisou and Eye of Judgment are released. I'm not sure how good they will sell but I think that (with the help of lower price which still will be having effect) it should be enough to surpass Wii.

Of course when Mario comes PS3 reign will end lasting only one week in my prediction.

So my answer is: Yes, PS3 will pass Wii in Japan, but won't keep for long.
