Forums - Sales - Will Wii fall behind both PS3 and X360 on the week ending 24 September?

That would be pleasant.

People are really underestimating the PS3 ...

No, I'm just taking historical trends with price cuts, especially of second and third place systems, and the fact that the PS3 didn't move much software with the price cut, just hardware, indicating either people just wanted the blu-ray capability, or it was a lot of upgrades, and the fact that I haven't heard of any rabid demand after the first week, indicating most of the demand was satisfied early

Historical trends? Answer me this...

When was the last time a 3rd or 2nd placed console was the 3rd fastest selling console in history?

You ARE underestimating the PS3, as Seece said.

And also, there was plenty of SW sold.

Its not the third fastest selling console in history PS1, PS2, Wii, sold faster than the PS3, probably others did as well in individual territories, remeber older consoles didn't have as much coverage WW as modern consoles do.

Also you are ignoring that population has grown and new markets have been covered in recent generations more than in earlier ones, the fact is the PS3 is still a third place console.

Also no there wasn't plenty of software sold, in US it fell 11% and in Japan it was kept up by Gundam

PS3 got to 23.93 Million quicker than PS1 did.

PS3, so far... > PS1

In US the week before it, Batman was released and the Slim had already been out a week in a few places.

Japan... wow, the SW was held up by the biggest game released that week. Shocking news!

Actually, PS1 had shipped 50 million consoles by March 1999, about 3 and a half years after launch, PS3 is currently just under three years old with only 23.97 million sold, so its pretty clear that PS1 sold faster.

Even allowing for Arkham and the early release of the slim, PS3 software still sold well under a million both weeks, and only a bit over the 500K it had been selling before, and Arkham isn't likely to keep selling that high for many weeks.

Ah, but Gundam isn't going to stay up very long, that's my point, its not going to keep these sales up

PS1 was released in December of 1994...

@ Bolded... we will see

Only in Japan, in US and Europe it was released in septemberr 1995

So? It was still released December 1994.

Anyway, just under PS1s 3rd birthday. October 1997 numbers say 22.5 million sold. EDIT: Shipped

http://www.playstationmuseum.com/Features/History/History1997.htm

Yeah and if you look at that chart you'll see that it was selling faster than the PS3

In japan it was at 8.6 million, PS3 is at 3.49

In US it had been out for little over 2 years at that point, and was already at 7.8, PS3 has been out almost 3 years in all of NA, and it is at only 9.31

Only in Europe is the PS3 selling faster than the PS1, but not by enough to cover the Japanese and US disparity

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

What this means then, the PS3 IS selling a little faster than the PS1, which was also claimed by Sony. 3 years into it's life (PS1) it had 22.5mill consoles out. Currently we're 2 months away from the PS3's 3rd full year, as Oct 1997 was for PS1, and it's already at 24mill, nearly 2mill higher than the PS1. Therefore, the PS3 is the faster selling system despite being in third place.

Not that it really matters ..

No its not, the PS1 had a much more staggered launch than the PS3, if you take each territory and compare them, you'll see that PS1 was actually selling faster, except europe, but overall it was selling faster

Exactly.

Looks like Avinash is wrong yet again.

That's only if you ignore the fact that PS1 launched almost 10-12 months later in the rest of the world outside Japan, so for almost a year there was one territory accounting for all of PS1's sales, compared to PS3 which had all territories getting the PS3 much faster

Sony nearly destroyed the Brand, the PS3 is a terrific console.

So. It still makes PS3 at its 3rd Birthday > PS1 at its 3rd Birthday.

And PS3 released in its best region, Europe... 5 months after release in Japan

Ah, but that doesn't make it faster though, your argument was it was selling faster, it wasn't in NA and Japan PS1 sold faster, and the greater pace of PS3 in Europe wasn't enough to cover that

And PS1 launched in its best market, US, almost 10 months later, as well as europe, and 10 is greater than 5

I will bet you my life, the wii wont reach the ps2 next year. It's one of the worst predictions ever, ever. It makes no sense how ypu came up with it. And the PS3 wont go back to 150k this year.

And if it doesn't then so what?  Who does it hurt if it doesn't come true?  You are waayy too concerned over such things

That has to be the worst prediction ever. How much wii should sell weekly to get there, 1.2 million or something?
