2) I'm not a PC gamer, aside from a few flash games. If there's a PC gamer, maybe they can enlighten me. My opinion is that the VERY BEST may be on PC's but the MOST fun will always be found on consoles. |
1) They can compete quite easily. On the PC you have the largest back catalogue of games from the widest range of genres, especially if you include emulation. When you get a new console, there is no gaurantee it'll be backwards compatable with previous games, and they will usually charge you again for digital downloads of games you're probably already bought. For certain genres (namely FPS, TPS and RTS) the PC keyboard and mouse combo is unbeatable. For others you can connect a 360 or 3rd-party controller. The biggest problem with PC gaming is optimisation, and drivers etc. but they're always workwrounds.
2) PCs have the same library as consoles for the most part + a whole bunch of extra games NOT available on consoles. You can find a lot of fun games on the PC. I have more actual fun playing PC games then console games (and I've played both for most of my life), and the experiences I've had playing PC games are easily among the very the best gaming experiences I've had in gaming.

To add to that,
If you're talking about stuff like reliability and durability, that's where building your own computer can be good. Since there are so many companies that offer computer hardware all you have to do is go to a site like newegg and check out reviews for the things you want to buy. Sure it's not fool proof, but I don't see consoles having perfect reliability either. Taking the time to learn how to do things can be a great asset though.
As for having the 'MOST' fun, that's all based on personal preference. I have my PC as well as console and I have tons of fun with both. The amount of time I spend on either one is usually based on which game I'm engrossed in at the time.
I also have some 15' USB extension wires ($1.60 each ftw) and a DVI-HDMI adapter coming from monoprice and I hope to be able to connect to the HDTV in the other room next week.
