Forums - Gaming - Moore: Dreamcast Set the “BENCHMARK in How to Launch a Console”

@outlawauron

I didn't know he was talking about US only.....I can't suddenly get a dream about which territory he specified.....because as disolitude said himself, it didn't do well in EU at all.

besides.....his comment saying " how to change the view of observers as to what video games are all about" is still the comment I'm after.

Do people in US remember it as a console that changed the view of observers towards gaming, hell no, thats the PS1 & the wii

That's like expecting Jack Tretton to brag about the PS3 but focus on its European sales. That's not his area, and when he talks about Sony, he's refering North America.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

@outlawauron

so, I have no idea what region peter moore would refer too.....how am I meant to know?

just because he heads EA sports now doesn't mean he wouldn't be talking about worldwide, for xbox 360 as far as I can remember he was the main PR guy & represented it almost WW.

one more thing, a consoles launch isn't just launch week, its more than that, fine the dreamcast did 400K in week 1.....but after that obviously it didn't change people's views about how gaming is seen, if it had...why did the sales stall?

In no way can we call it a benchmark, apart from its games lineup for the first 2 years.

i love how someone who was 6 years old when the launch happened is trying to tell us about it.

darth you know nothing of the history of sega if you are asking all those questions.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Darth buddy...the point ur arguing is almost absurd...and the fact that use a SINGLE retailer( who dont even have to be gamers to get a job) to back ur point up is silly

@johnsobas

enough is known from the present

if the launch was a benchmark & changed peoples views towards gaming, people would remember it as one in USA & sales would show......neither of that is there....especially the sales bit

A console that gets discontinued for not selling well cannot be a console that "changed people's views towards gaming", a 7 year old at that time could have figured this out

also for all we know you could have been 3 back then.....no-one knows your age on VGC

@xxain

my point has changed now........as we have moved on to USA.....as apparently thats what Peter Moore was talking about.

"Benchmark in how to launch a console"...

Shouldn't it be the other way around? "how not to launch a console".

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Moore is right and he followed the same formula with Xbox 360.

Have MTV spam the shit out of the console and have crazy ass launch parties.

Dreamcast had some buzz back then.

Has anyone noted that Peter Moore was the President of Sega during the Dreamcast era? I am sure that has something to do with hi opinion on the launch of the console...

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

The thing had PS2 graphics at a time when everyone was still playing the PS1. The only reason it didn't sell was that everyone expected the PS2's abilities to blow it away on day one (which didn't happen until years later). On top of that, the launch library was among the best seen on any system ever.

I hated Sega in those days, but the Dreamcast got it right.
